Hello, Warriors.
I stumbled upon a small but VERY targeted niche. It's a hobby.
As per Google Adwords Keyword tool there are least 1,000 daily searches about that certain hobby... Let's call it "How to Make Your Own Speakers Out of Coconut"...

So, I just got in touch with the World's biggest maker of "Coconut Speakers" and told them I was building an online community on the subject and they are very excited and want to help me.

My initial plan was to film these guys making speakers out of coconuts and sell it as a video course - buyers will also have access to the membership program for a month, then they will be billed like $5 a month or so.

Now, my problem is there are already many videos on Youtube and some detailed descriptions on how to make a "coconut speaker" - all free.

If you were in my shoes, would you go ahead with it and still make the video course and a membership site? Or just let go the idea...

Thanks

Alex

p.s. The niche is not "Coconut Speakers" but it is as weird and crazy...

You need to establish if the market will pay $5 a month for these videos and information or if they are looking for everything for free.

Okay having all the information in one site and knowing that its good true information might be enough to get the majority of people to pay the small fee.

However then you have the problem of keeping them there.... as with any niche eventually there is just no more information to give and so i suggest you make a chat room and forum (forum first) so that people with the same interests can communicate with each other.

This niche genre reminds me of the 'make your own projector' kinda idea and that worked and was successful for lots of people and the community's thrived and people showed off what they made.

Also have a look and see what else you can sell them on the backend...as if it were really coconut speakers then you could sell them coconuts and the other parts to create them.

Best of luck to you and your new venture though

      Thanks for the reply, Tom!
I didn't mention it in the original post, but of course there will be a forum...
I think a forum is usually the BIGGEST part of any membership website.

If you can find a forum, post a question to see if people are interested.

Or, you could buy some Pay-Per-Click and instead of selling them something,
ask them to help by answering your survey along with a promise to notify them
if and when you open the site. Let them tell you.

You should definitely go with this.

If I see something about song writing (A hobby of mine) I normally buy it. This is stupid because I probably know more about songwriting than the writer of any product as I have been doing it for 35 years.

Its my hobby - I love it - I am always looking for a new angle.

You just need to get into the heads of your target audience and find out what makes them tick. Then add a new angle or twist and go for it.

        Good luck

You need to do some testing to see if you'd actually get sales. Setup a sales page, etc. and see if there is interest. See how many conversions you would get and what it would cost before making the site. Just say you are "under construction" and do not process the orders (but save the email addresses).

I spent the whole day researching and I decided I will just go ahead and start that projects ASAP. It will only cost a few $100 - so no biggie. I haven't been that excited for almost 2 years (since I got my first ever Clickbank sale) I really think I stumbled upon something potentially huge

    Thanks for replies

One thing you need to remember, is that generally people won't value something unless they have paid for it. If you put out paid support videos, with a support / hobby community attached to it, they are getting the information, and talking to other people about it, it'd be a great enticement for a lot of people.
