How To Get Justin Bieber To Promote Your Business ;)

How To Get A 60% Response Rate...

With help from the main man JB!

Seriously, I have just got done reading this: The $26,495.00 SEO Sales Letter EXPOSED | Firepole Marketing Blog

I though it was absolutely genius and I might do something similar myself.

It's kind of like a new take on "The Dollar Bill Letter" except instead of sending a dollar bill attached to your sales letter you send your sales letter attached to a lifesized Justin Bieber cardboard cutout.

YOU KNOW THAT'S GOING TO GET SOMEONE'S ATTENTION!

This guy got a 60% response rate and he even gives you the exact sales letter he used.

Enjoy,

- Simon

  • Using a celebrity name and image without consent for the purpose of obtaining business is not a genius move in my opinion, and rarely has a good ending. The contracts obtained from this endeavor might seem a success on the surface, however let's hope for the sake of firepole marketing, that this does not go viral and reaches JB's reps.

      ^^^ Exactly!

And I'll just add that I would never ever want my name attached to him anyway. I mean his latest stunt that was recently reported was that he serenaded his grandma butt naked! Eww!

Over and beyond the gross factor, I wouldn't want any of my clients thinking I was going to pose with either a laptop or microphone in front of key places in place of Bieber's guitar!

Me neither. You might say that I am NOT a Belieber.

That is very true man. Good point.

Yeah, I've heard Bieber isn't all that nice off stage also.

There was a day care center in my area that got sued by Disney because they painted silhouettes of mickey mouse ears on their walls. I don't remember the details, like how Disney found out about it, but the point is using an unlicensed likeness of a celebrity or logo will probably land you in hot water fast!

Might work if your business is pulling sales in 100s. But if your business is pulling sales in millions, you will bound to attract police.

      Yeah, definitely.

Maybe it's best we stick to The Dollar Bill Letter lol.

Although in my case in the UK so it has to be a "Five Pound Note Letter"

Won't most of your fans be young teen women? Not sure if this strategy is for me. Still, getting 60% rate is awesome. Have to try it out I guess. What about a cardboard cut out of Abraham Lincoln and a big bold headline that says.

    Please save your pennies.

Wouldn't a bold headline that reads Please Save Your Pennies be encouraging your visitors not to buy from you? Not a good business marketing idea, I'm afraid.

Those who pointed out that the company may have been in breach of the terms under which the images were licensed do have a point. However, I read the whole article and most of the sales letter and I thought it was an interesting campaign.

The thing is to not get drawn in to the Justin Bieber thing. It is understanding the principles they used to bypass the gatekeeper, get the open rate and, most importantly get the sales that is important.

There is one minor thing, though. If you legitimately buy a licensed Disney or Justin Bieber product, you are allowed to dispose of it any way you like.

So while you cannot take a picture of Justin Bieber and blow it up to life size, or paint your own Mickey Mouse ears on the wall, you have EVERY RIGHT to buy a legitimately licensed Justin Bieber standee or Mickey Mouse decal.

There's also the "ridiculous" exemption for claims. I've been rather amused by this ad lately:

Clearly, this is not really going to give you laser eyes. That will never happen. But if nobody in his right mind would believe it, this is okay.

Similarly, you can in fact defend your use of a person's likeness on your marketing materials if and only if it is completely ridiculous for anyone to conclude that said person has anything to do with it.

Note the word "defend" which only matters if you get sued and can only really be done with an attorney. So, you know, maybe an attorney capable of making that argument for whatever you're doing - and willing to do so - belongs on retainer first. Just sayin'.
