lead magnets and conversions

I'll try to make this short. Out of curiosity, when it comes to list building, are having lead magnets really necessary? I mean if you have a product and wanted to get "qaulified" leads wouldnt offering a free ebook, or course, or anything of that nature build a list of freebie seekers?

Not there's really anything wrong with that but wouldnt you have better luck building a list of people who are highly interested in the "product" you're offering? For instance, say you have two different squeeze pages, and the product you're offering is a video course on traffic. Now lets say that squeeze page A offers a lead magnet of offering a free ebook on copywriting and squeeze page B offers 3/4 of the video course for free while still being completely upfront on the squeeze page that the product is $97. Although your optin rate would be lower on squeeze page B, wouldnt you think that you'll have more buyers and a more responsive and qaulified list of leads that went through squeeze page B compared to A? Just a thought, and let me know yours peeps. Thanks.

Track and test the different options is the only way you will know which works best for your particular Niche

      Yes,what Paul said exactly...

Not everyone that signs up for a free offer is a "freebie seeker"...

I always make sure my freebie/opt-in incentive is closely related to my main paid product... If you're selling an ebook, you should consider offering the 1st few chapters for free, if its a video course, offer a few videos...

There's really a bunch of different ways you can go, but nothing will give you a better understanding of what works than testing and tracking as Paul said...

          Chris,

There's nothing wrong with freebie seekers if you can move them through your funnel from one step to the next. Sure, having a list of buyers is preferable, however, I don't think you necessarily want to do the "weeding out" at your squeeze page.

I've always considered the squeeze has only one purpose - to get contact information. And yes, it's best if the squeeze incentive or reward is related specifically to the product you're selling. I wouldn't put the product price on the squeeze as that gives you no opportunity to give "a reason why" or benefits for the product to the prospect.

The word you were looking for is epiphany - "a sudden, intuitive perception of or insight into the reality or essential meaning of something"

          The best to you,

          Steve

Thanks Steve for the insightful suggestions and advice, and thanks for the spell check. Ha ha ha, I'm going to test these scenarios and see what happens.
