Which Sells More Online: . . . Goods, Services, Information?

It has long been a nagging point of curiosity this business of what segment of Internet sales does the most volume or gross sales on an annual basis.

Some argue it's "Information" while others point to the tidal wave called Amazon.com for the "Goods" argument. Does it look like "Services" will place a distant third? What's your take?

I don't have any figures but if you're talking about sheer volume I would have to say physical goods at number one. Because if you think about it, besides Amazon.com, there are other e-commerce sites like eBay. Even merchants of brick and mortar stores are going online to cater to their customers.

But in terms of profits, it has to be information products. I mean there is no inventory, no need to create multiple products (just create once and it can "multiply" or sell infinitely) and no delivery times too; almost instant delivery, which is what customers want...

I think there is no order in terms of goods, services and information.
Great content/info keeps clients and attracts more, good service encourages trust and commitment and physical goods are easy.

However if I had to choose one it would be information (online)
    Physically? Definitely service

You know it's hard to say, but there one thing for sure that the ratio of trade of physical goods has increased over 30% during last 2 years. And that's possible due to the new facilities added to the online system.

    Easily information.

Think about all the ebooks, mp3s, kindle books, apps, courses, consulting, etc.

In terms of gross sales by far it's physical goods (depending on whether you count software as a good, a service, or information). Information really isn't that big an industry in total sales volume.

In terms of profit, definitely information. You don't have to pay for packaging/shipping, and it's very simple to create.
