Need some no nonsense 'Nut and Bolt' Guide on how to Setup a Wordpress Blog with Affiliate & Adsense

Okay, I am stepping out here and decided I need to grow my IM Business more. And I think one big step in doing this would be to open up a new Wordpress Blog. I know absolutely nothing about design or technical stuff. I have 7 Blogger Blogs. They are doing very well.
But a free blogger blog will only go so far as far as wanting to set up things like membership Site or a setting up really, really sharp Affiliate Site.

So for my next Niche Product I really want to put out all the bells and whistles with decent design etc....and Wordpress seems the way to go.

I have been struggling for awhile to take this step. Blogger is so damn easy but I need to quit putting it off and put the Bar a little higher for myself.

Can anybody give me some useful info. to get started ??. I dont really even understand the concept of Wordpress and how you cant use Adsense on it ?? I definitely need the ability to have Adsense.

Anyway, appreciate any help or a kind hand showing me where to go !! If I have to spend a little bit to figure this out, so be it.

Thanks for any help,
Discrat

P.S. Down the road I might also transfer some of these Blogger Sites to Wordpress. But one step at a time.

Get AdSense-Ready & Affiliate Friendly Themes...

If you "can't use AdSense in Wordpress blogs" -- I'd guess that would refer to
those hosted on Wordpress.com > I don't know whether that's the case or not.

Your question is a bit open-ended but for starters I would say you should get a nice-looking theme and then place a couple of AdSense blocks in it. Load up the blog with quality content.

If you want "optimized" themes, a good one to try is ProSense.

Play around with it, and see how it all works. There's no teacher like experience, in the end...

Not quite sure I understand your question ...

Do you mean a wordpress blog on your own domain, or one hosted on wordpress.com ?

As for setting up a WP blog -- I recommend (sorry, I have to say it): Google.

There is TONS of information on wordpress blogs and they are extremely easy to set up -- especially if you have a hosting account with cpanel/fantastico. (Yes, purists, I know, there are those who do not recommend using this method for security reasons...nevertheless...)

I can make a nice adsense ready theme for you with custom header and footer. Just PM me and I can get it setup for you.

If you are using a host that has cpanel, in the fantastico section, there is an option to setup wordpress - it's pretty much a one step install, and it takes care of all the technical items for you so you don't need to worry about them at all.

*ETA - the following response is based on the assumption you're looking to install Wordpress on your own hosted domain.*

I think this will get you started (not an aff. link): How To Start A Blog

It's Craig Desorcy's site (for those not familiar, he's a very helpful warrior). He has a nice free guide (Your First Wordpress Blog - The Beginner's Definitive Guide). He's also quite responsive and helpful when you need to get a bit of guidance. Just post any questions on his blog and he will answer them.

    He's helped me several times!

Also, it'll be much easier for you if you have a host with cPanel and Fantastico. With those two things, the install of Wordpress will be easy-breezy. Just a couple of clicks and you're off!

There are tons of free adsense compatible themes and also some great free plugins that will help with getting your blog up and running quickly. You'll especially be interested in the Adsense Manager plugin (which has just changed over to Advertising Manager plugin I guess - some sort of updating).

If you check out wordpress.org under the extend section you'll find all kinds of great themes and plugins to start off, as well as video tutorials which will be really helpful as well.

Another thing I've found useful is to google if you run into problems. Normally, anything I've had a problem with already has a solution out there on a free blog somewhere.

One final tip. Make sure to take a minute and glance through the readme.txt files that come with each plugin. They normally have great installation, activation and setup information that will make your life much easier.

OK, that's probably enough of a ramble for right now to get you started. It really is quite easy once you get going. And don't feel as if any question is too silly to ask. Believe me, I've probably already asked it, myself, multiple times!

    Good luck,
    Cindy

I'm not sure why you think you can't use Adsense on a Wordpress blog, I have Adsense on many of my Wordpress blogs.

What kind of site are you trying to set up, I know you said affiliate and adsense, but what sort of affiliate products are you planning to put on the site? Is it going to be a content site or an auction affiliate based site?
