Would selling ebooks be a bad idea for this guy?

A close friend of mine who has little experience in setting up sites has come to me to ask for advice. He's been into weight training for a long time and with all his certs as well he pretty much knows everything about it and he was thinking of launching ebooks that explain all the exercises and why some work for some people and others don't etc. He says he could write at least 3 long ebooks or multiple short ones.

He also suggested that on the website selling the ebooks he would do a promotional video about 10 mins long to explain who he is and what his credentials are etc.

Would it be a good or bad idea, would he be better off to just be an affiliate for other ebooks, what do you think?

Thanks, I know you might say let him try, but are there any opinions first?

I'm no expert, but I'm writing an ebook - it's a win win situation. I either make some money from it, or at least gain valuable IM experience. I say go for it, as long as there is not a high financial cost.

It is always a good idea to have a product of your own...

Yeah I mean it's really only a case that I want to advise someone in the right direction.

Evaluate it as you would any model.
If you are thinking of the Kindle market for example, take a look to see how similar books are selling.

I cant really comment on whether or not he should sell his expertise, but I can say that that particular product may be more valuable as videos. It can be far easier to explain and demonstrate things like that on video rather than through text.

He should be doing books, videos, DVD's, membership sites, EVERYTHING! (If he wants to succeed and dominate)

I would tell him to shoot for it. Make sure you help him with his marketing, and give him some internet marketing training courses for him to use on his own.

It does take more work to create the product but it will be worth it. He can start off by building his list while he is creating the product so that he can immediately market to them once the product is created. This is something to look into
