I've had my final warning..

I created a site with a script which displays videos related to the keywords in this case "Acne".

Well apparently my site is being blamed for ruining a websites SEO. I'm not sure about posting the exact link for their site here but I will post what they have asked me to do and my reponse.

The purpose of my posting is to ask if if if there is actually anything I can do because what I have done is not deliberate.

Here's what they have said to me:

A Request For Your Help

Wednesday 14th of August 2013 12:21:44 PM

Brian Morgan

Dear Brian Morgan:

We have discovered that a company we hired to help promote our website [THEIRWEBSITE] have used a variety of questionable techniques to secure links to our website. These links were placed purely for SEO purposes, with the intention of manipulating search rankings.

It appears that there may be links like this that have been placed on your site.

The presence of these links is harmful to our site's good standing with search engines, and unfortunately, retaining them may also be potentially harmful to your own website's reputation.

We would ask that you please remove any links on your site that link to [THEIRWEBSITE].

So far as we are aware, there are (or have been) links at these URLs:
[LINK REMOVED TO VIDEO - WHICH IS ONLY ONE THEY CAN FIND]

We would greatly appreciate your help with resolving this problem.

You can also let us know once the links to [THEIRWEBSITE] have been removed by return email.

If you need any more information from us, please email me and I will be happy to assist.

We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you and do appreciate your help.

Sincerely,

Employee
And here is my response:

These are the keywords that created my site. It's not a spam site as someone has hinted.

"pregnancy and acne, neck acne, natural acne cures, getting rid of acne, cure for acne, home remedies acne, acne laser treatment, types of acne, home remedy for acne, how to get rid of acne scars, body acne treatment, back acne treatment, glycolic acid acne, acne treatment reviews, acne nodules, exposed acne treatment, acne skin care products, treatments for acne, spironolactone acne, benzoyl peroxide acne, dermatology acne, salicylic acid acne, acne treatment products, cystic acne treatment, acne dermatologist, sulfur acne treatment, acne antibiotics, acne scar treatments, over the counter acne treatment, best acne treatments, severe acne treatment, acne scar cream, adult acne treatments, acne home treatment, acne spot treatment, oily skin acne, treatment of acne, effective acne treatment, adult acne treatment, acne treatment system, hormonal acne treatment, retinol acne, how to get rid of pimples, neutrogena multi vitamin acne treatment, new acne treatment, acne skin treatment, skincare, acne review, acne treatment reviews"

Can you see anything that is related to your site(s)?
As I said I'm not deliberately targeting any website but they have a video which is obviously using one of these keywords.

So was my response correct? Or do I have to delete the website?

Thanks for taking the time to read. Oh, and by the way the site is created with "Youtube in a box"

Cheers

Brian

Keywords in itself has nothing to do with what they are asking, you may have certain keywords that are an anchor text to their site, simply unlink the keyword or keywords and reply that you have done so.

No need to delete an entire site.

Thsnk you but I don't know how to unlink their keywords. The video in question has two tags that I can see. A product name and "Acne removal" that have the offending url in the description.

The last few emails I got like that (for an article directory I used to own) - I replied back and told them that I charge $20 per link for link removal...

    They never reply back, lol.

    Cheers,

I have received so many of these requests... I started charging a processing fee. Only ever had one client willing to pay it.

Part of the problem is that you need to identify those parties seeking to remove those links. They could say anything about who they are.

Haha I like the reply that Coby give. Erm if it is not too big an issue, I will simply just remove it from the website as there are many other videos that contain useful content.

You have not done anything wrong it appears. They are saying that someone else posted a link on your site - and it may be bad for them. All you need to do is remove the link, which is likely a blog comment or something of the sort.

Brian, they likely paid someone to get them to the top of the SERPS and that someone built a lot of links. Now that Google is cracking down on links they are trying to backtrack and get rid of the links that were built.

Some people sent emails like the one you were are removing links, some are charging to remove links, some are doing nothing.

However, if the link is in the form of a video you posted, I would suggest removing the video in case they consider it a copyright violation. If it is a text link it is your call.

Not sure why you think you have to take down the site.

The main problem is that the video has been included on my site because it's actually on Youtube. The only reason their link is on my site is because of the word "Acne" nothing more.

Thank you all for your advice.

It's not a warning afaics, they've only asked you to remove the links.

You could offer to do it for a fee, or just ignore them. Unless there's some greater context that you'e omitted, I would not worry about it. And I certainly wouldn't be making excuses.

That was only one of the emails that I got There's no 'greater context' omitted, as someone has said, they paid someone to do SEO and as a consequence the SEO has harmed and not helped their website's rankings. The video is on Youtube and there's nothing I can do about that.

But you are right, I'm going to ignore them from now on.

      Kind regards

Brian, I don't see what the problem is - you've embedded a publicly available video on your site and included a link. I agree with Coby, reply with a message to the effect that you charge $XX for removal per link. There's no law against linking to someone's site on the internet Brian. If they don't like it because they think it's affecting their SERP position, then they will have to pay for you to comply with their requests (since it's not obligatory to do anything at all). What a mess Google has got people into - I am seeing people who used to be ninja at SEO ditch it altogether and grow their businesses much faster with paid traffic. Best, Dean.

      Dean,

you are absolutely right, I've done nothing wrong If I could remove the link I would have but it's entirely not in my ability to do so. I chose some Acne Keywords that pulled together videos from Youtube, and one of them is theirs which I didn't put on YT so it's tough on them really. That video should be pulled which I have told them previously.

Thanks again. I'm going to ignore further requests or tell them to pay me to remodel the site so that it won't feature their video.

      Cheers

Brian, I think that's the only and best thing you should do for now. In the first place, as I understand what you said above, it is unintentional to have their site linked onto your website via a YouTube video just because of the keyword "acne". If they insist and you don't know what specific actions to take, oblige them to give you the step-by-step instructions on what you should do (charge a nominal fee). After all, you should not burn your time researching on the specific actions you should do.

I had a similar email from someone asking me to remove a link on one of my sites. I wish I had thought about asking for $xx for the work! Brilliant idea.

I wonder if this could be turned into an income stream somehow? Hmmm... ?

          Probably not. :-)

They have no right to make you do anything.

Warning you is fine, but it is all up to you.

Eventually they will use the Google Disavow Tool to remove your website.

    Goodluck!
