Methods to make 'slow long term (3-4 years) money online?

where you do work for 6 months, and then 'leave it' expect regular profits to come in 2-3+ years

so in other words a patient way to wait for profits to come long term.

where you do some work now and put effort in and expect profits to come long term?

eg create a forum, which will get built with members up as time goes ?

any other suggestions ?

while there are some income sources online that are more passive than others...it generally changes quite quickly.

One thing I really like is youtube videos and CPA. We have videos still making money that were set up 1 and a half years ago passively churning traffic to our affiliate offers. (quick cash flow + long term)

It's quite a simple setup and then you leave it. Though it's starting to get more competitive and they might crack down soon.

Why would you "expect" "regular profits" if you're not doing any work?

You use a forum as an example. You'd have to deal with spammers, trolls, d-bags, people who take things way too seriously. There would be constant upkeep. You'd need to continue to market the fck out of it. And if you did none of these things...well then no one is going to use your product/services because it's so tainted/boring.

Instead of looking for a magical solution that requires no work, why not find a solution that involves work you enjoy, and engage in that work on a semi-regular basis.

Some cause-oriented hackers recently hacked one of my websites. So I researched what they're about and then donated a large sum of money to the entity they hate the most.

The next time they hack one of my websites I'm going to donate DOUBLE.

the key really is to put as much work as you can. you cannot expect to earn more where you put only minimal work, right?

I doubt zero maintenance 100% passive income really exists, because there's always competition.

Or you could invest your money

Spend 4 months building an authority site and ranking it in Google for a variety of keywords.

After 4 months you should be able to get at least 10,000 visitors a month minimum.

The whole time you have been building a list.

Then spend 2 months creating your own product that you can launch to the list and promote to new subscribers.

Let's say you have a 1% conversion rate, so you make 100 sales a month from your 10,000 visitors selling a $47 front end product.

    $4,700 a month.

Now you have some money to play with so you go to Odesk or Elance and find someone to write the content for your site each and every month.

You then find a second person to develop a backend product for you (preferably a monthly membership)

Now you're making even more money.

Hire a third person to write more content for you each month.

So you now have 2 people writing content for the site each month which is helping your site to grown each and every month getting you more and more traffic which means more and more sales, and you also have the other guy taking care of your monthly membership.

So now you can move on to another project or just enjoy the good life.
