Youtube - is my idea even plausible? Should I try?

Hello,

My first post.
I've read a few different articles and the like from here but wanted to ask if this is a strategy that I should attempt or if I'm wasting time.

-

As I understand it the best thing to "sell" is what a person is passionate in.
I myself have a huge love of the fitness industry and i can show that I self taught went from way out of shape to six pack in just over a year.

I ran across a comprehensive review of tube toolbox here, and i had been making youtube videos wondering how other fitness channels had 100k subscribers and how they made any money.

Now my plan is this:

1. Make a video per day - my niche is fitness for the regular guy. I have a tagline that I can't mention yet.
2. Put work into my channel and actually complete it with graphics and the new welcome trailer etc.
3. Then use tube toolbox and my own efforts to network and get subscribers.
4. Get an affiliated sports supplement company I can sell
5. Monetize the videos.

I figure this plan of attack will require some time but I have lots of it.

I want within two to three years to be earning from this so that I may move to the Philippines with the wite and continue the business model from there.

Does this sound silly? I cert hope not.
I'm guessing this plan will take a long time, overnight success doesn't happen and I'm choosing a competitive field.

Thanks for looking in.
I hope to be able to contribute as i learn and help others.

I haven't found many good or great videos on this. Just really basics for the kiddies. Any resources that arent paid?

    Hi Steven,

    Juan here.
    Sounds like a good plan.
Just a few points to keep in mind:

    - The top two variables there are traffic and conversion rate
    - The strategies that you use to get subscribers will greatly affect the conversion rate
    - The type of videos that you upload will also affect the conversion rate
    - At some point you need to decide where are you going to sell. Where will your call to action be located. You might have your affiliate links in your Youtube videos description, you can try to build an email list, or you can try to build a website and an audience. How people will return to your videos/website should be part of the plan.

    Hope this helps,
    Best,

    Juan

Absolutely not, it's a pretty good plan to start and you seem to already know and understand that this may take while. Use T.Tbox "smartly" and you should be good for a start....but like it's been said over and over again in this Forum, do not put all your eggs in one basket

    Good luck to ya.

I don't see why your plan wouldn't work.

Keep calm, don't lose your patience or passion, have your goals in your head all the time and - good luck

Sounds like you are ready to get to work, but one video a day seems like a lot to start. I would focus on quality rather than quantity. I think 2 or 3 a week would be plenty to get started.

Also keep in mind that just because someone has 100k subscribers, doesn't mean they are all legit. This is something you may or may not want to look into. People "boost" their videos with "views/likes/subscribers" when they are starting out to give the appearance that their channel is more popular than it actually it is. People are more likely to subscribe if they see a lot of people are already subscribing.

To bad you didn't start the videoing/documenting progress at the start, so that you could show your transformation on film.

Keep in mind that the fitness niche is fairly saturated, and you may have to also do some "work" to get your videos to the top of Youtube and Google search to get a lot of attention. After the past algo updates it seems Youtube videos are easier than ever to rank.

      Thanks.

I have photos from as far back as 2001 when I knew nothing and lost some weight... Then in may of 2011 I started being deadly serious and went from fat to six pack.

I do have the before and after...

I'm so happy at the response to my question. Was worried I'd had some sort of detail wrong.

      1. Right now the spouse is overseas in philippines so all I do seven days a week is work/gym/home so quality can come once per day.

A trick I'm trying is basic stuff like film me making a healthy dinner and add commentary lol.

Other than that I did a two minute quick video and can loop them into a sub category like say "fitness myths" and "beginner 101"

      2. I'm naive towards fake subscribers. I'll look into it.

      3. I am indeed on facebook, but my skills as a page administrator are lacking. I have 107 likes but it's a huge competitive market and facebook isn't to me a good place for quality but that's maybe because I am not promoting as I've no add budget.

      ... I thought I had another point. I don't i guess.
I'd post a link to my channel if i were sure it's allowed. Is it?

Oh yes. In terms of product to sell, i have a few choices.

    1. If i get a legitimate supplement company to back me I can get free product worth a lot of money as pay for the sales... And possibly pay from bonuses. The company now considering me is small and hopefully will grow into real $

    2. Option 2 is the affiliate program at bodybuilding.com which uses a very established affiliate program but again not he commissions I guess.

    3. Amazon obviously. Possibly best option for many but perhaps not me as supplements are cheaper elsewhere.

    4. I made sales with a great author before, could do again.

I was thinking more along the lines of the ads before or on youtube videos. Is that the wrong path to go along?

Speed of implementation is key. Take massive action the plan is good. You can also monetize with information.

    Sounds like a plan indeed.

I am in another niche and on page 22 with my first video. Some updating of tags, description and title + some links has been done but still really nothing to report in terms of actual views. I am currently waiting to see if there is some indexing that needs to be done in youtube and google.

Other than that you need plenty of videos to get a foothole in the door. Once you got 15-20 on youtube sign up for the 1$ try with Traffic Geyser to spred the videos out and the links.

Tjeck Jeff Johnson. He is a youtube expert and has some great tips including a 15 point tjecklist that anyone posting to youtube should follow.

    Also get some help.

Tjeck Elance for freelancers. There are many that can provide exellent work in social media, youtube, writing etc. Anything you need.

Half of that makes little sense lol.
      I'll have a learning curve.

Was understanding that bought views can get you disqualified from youtubes own monetization schemes. Is that what you are referring to?

I have one possible ace up my proverbial sleeve. My wife's niece lives in the Philippines and did seo for an American who taught her the ratio of words/percentage for google rankings but this is different isn't it?

I get lots of google returns on things like say, camera reviews.

My idea would be in time after a huge following, review a fitness supplement and see that as a google result and see sales from this product via said video.

No I was referring to my current own experience with youtube and my first video. Youtube ranks differently from Google even though Google owns youtube.

So you got the camera reviews market comming? That is good but are they doing what you say or leaving the site?

You want a huge following? Youtube videos done right can do that. Where do you want the following to go after they have watched your videos? A review on fitness is a different market than camera reviews so you need to do a fitness review website. Then the following can watch your videos and go to your fitness site. That can happen but how Google is going to rank your website nobody can say.

No, i was just using the camera as an example.
If you were to fish with Google ad words tool I'm sure one could find the most popular bodybuilding supplements being reviewed.

Thankfully that stuff doesn't change too often. A brand I'd around a while and only change get formula not necessarily names of products.

Couple of thoughts... You should get a domain and host it. Build a simple squeeze page and offer a free report that outlines "how you did it" in exchange for their email... Then you can push people from your videos to your page and collect their emails so that you can market to them forever.

Second thought - a great book for you to read at this point would be "Crush it" by Gary Vaynerchuk. It shows how he took your exact same model and became the internet's foremost wine authority - and growing his wine store from 2 Mil a year to 50 Mil a year in the process.

Good luck and stick to it.

        Thanks great resources.

I do own a domain but right now it points at a blog hosted via blogger. I have hosting for another real life project I need to complete in a completely different market/category, but I should upgrade my hosting to host both.

My problem as it stands is that I understand Wordpress and can do it but unless stuff like the popover in the browser offering you the "special report" is a self installing plug in I am no coder and am not in a position to take the hours to learn.

I'm starting though to formulate this plan of attack better.

        1. Generate traffic to a site via youtube
        2. Offer the incentive to collect the email address.
        3.
        4. Offer the product via email marketing, chances are they pay attention to the offer more because it did come from me.

Now need to find a number 3.
I Could always just write my own Ebook honestly.
        I'm that confident in myself.

On a side note, I spent about twenty minutes unsubscribing to things. I was solely responsible for my spam problem.

100% of the junk I got I had signed up for via a site like zagat, youtube or a chain store.

Goes to show that must work.

That right there is going to put you head and shoulders above 99.9% of ALL entrepreneurs, online or off.

Do NOT put the affiliate links in the description unless you want your channel taken away. Try to create a brand name. People will search for that using Google and that will help you. It is hard work to create good videos, but you get a ton of traffic which is plus max. Hey, if you think that creating videos is easy. Well, please think again. Hard work is the key to success. Remember that you can use your movies in earning money. I get money from Google every month from you tube and it is worth the effort to build up a large number of movies. They will continue to earn you money. Not just for the month you upload it, but for many years. Exciting videos will pump money in. Frankly, you tube is a proven winner.
