What Are The Benefits Of Attaching A Blog To My Website?

As a part of my strategy for developing traffic to my new website I plan to create a network of blogs (wordpress, hubpages, squidoo, blogger, etc.) that will all link back to the original domain.

My question is should I create the main blog on the same domain as my new website (i.e. mysite.com/blog) or does this not really matter? What are the pros and cons of doing this?

Thanks,

Paul.

    Hey Paul,

Yes you'll definitely see some search
    engine benefits.

    Here's how it's done in a nutshell:

Install a wordpress blog into a folder
within your site, then post to it about
twice a week on things relating to your
    niche.

Every couple of posts, include a link
back to other pages in your site.

Be sure to use the Google sitemap
plug in, and the all in one SEO pack
for the blog, and be sure to ping
    the blog after each post.

After a while, probably not more than
a couple of weeks, you should see
    your traffic start to increase.

    Good luck

Thank you for the advice. But if you had to choose - would you attach your blog to your main new domain or keep it separate.

Keep it separate if your main concern is to funnel traffic to your site.

I think also depends on your branding and how much time you're planning to spend on the blog's upkeep.

A blog at xxx.blogspot.com just doesn't look very professional in some markets but is fine in others. Also if you have a catchy domain name, it's easier for people to spread word of mouth than another domain name for your blog.

In the long term, it may be better for branding and long term traffic to have a blog as part of the domain but if it is a short term thing or you're not sure how committed you are to blogging regularly then off it may be advisable.

If your main site does NOT constantly have fresh content added to it, use the blog as apart of the site... but if you do update it all the time, keep it separate.
