Should I be Offering affiliate Commissions on My Products?

Please bear with me. This is my first year in online marketing. Prior to that, I worked in marketing & sales for brick and mortar businesses. So my question is this. I have created info products, I have been solely working on my own to promote and sell these products. Up to this point, I have looked at affiliate marketing as an additional income. I just simply added banner ads to my websites and emails.

Ignorant question here...should I be offering an affiliate marketing program for the info products that I have created? It would not cost me anything additional since I sell my products through ejunkie. Would people be interested in promoting my products? It is a B2B based product in the pet industry with only a 60,000 U.S market. Occasionally, I get Canadian customers.

If I do this, what % would be worthwhile to you? How would I find affiliate marketers interested in promoting my products without me having to pay a fortune to standard affiliate networks? Are there any other avenues/options that I don't know about. This is new to me.

I usually offer around 50%-75% on my own products. You need to have a good incentive for affiliates to sell your products for a decent price.

Are you building a list already? I hope you are because that should be the core of every online business. By building your list you get potential buyers who will buy again and again from you in future. Product creation and using affiliates are definitely one of the best ways to increasing your list size.

Offer them a high enough commission. Let them help build your list while you help them make money. You might even consider giving them 100% because your priority here should not be in profits (at least not yet!) but to build a large enough buyers' list that will earn you big bucks in the long run. You will earn much more in the back end sales.

    Just my two cents worth

Teddy-Thanks for the reply. That is where you lost me. Like I said, I am new at this and feel like I am missing something. Yes, my main source of income comes from my list (around 3,000). Took 1yr to grow that but my market is small(I think compared to others?(60,000 in the entire US). My conversion rates are at 5%, from what I can google, that seems good? I have 1 major product($40) and a few 3-$10 products. How can I make any money if I offer 75-100% commission? I am missing something here, I can tell. LOL, Can you please expand and educate me as to what it is?

There's actually a bunch of knowledge to be learnt in this area.

If you've already set up your affiliate program using a platform like JVZoo, you're in an absolute position to give 75-100% commission to your affiliates.

Higher payouts naturally attracts more affiliates. What we are trying to do here, however, is not just to attract any affiliate, but only the TOP affiliates who already have a huge list of proven buyers. You see, if you are able to get them to send your sales page link to their massive buyers lists, you will be building a 100% buyers list as well for every person from their list who purchases your product will also be added to your own list. Now if you do this correctly, your new list members are all made up of people who make proven purchases and not just freebie seekers! You aren't even offering anything free here...

Anyway, this is easier said than done. Anyone can raise their payouts to 100%...To beat the competition, you need to offer your affiliates something irresistible. There are a few things you can do to greatly increase your chances of working with them despite being new/low on reputation. They are...

1)by having a top notch sales page - A high converting sales page means more earnings for your affiliates. Any affiliate will want a product that converts well by itself.

To get an excellent copy, you may choose to outsource the task or write it yourself. There are plenty of resources out there that you can utilize to turn yourself into a pro copywriter in a matter of hours. Copy writing in my opinion is definitely a skill that's worth learning...

2)By offering attractive payouts and great product value - I mean, who doesn't want greater payouts? But before you raise your prices, make sure your product's value justifies its price. It will be even better if you are able to over deliver. Take some time to create a high value product. It will be worth it.

Anyway, if you're concerned about the $7-37 pricing rule, fret not. This rule does not apply so much here for you're leveraging your affiliates' already accomplished reputation and network. In fact, higher pricing (usually above $50) works better with top affiliates because they are used to selling high ticket items. Such pricing also means more earnings for them. Set higher prices as long as you are able to justify them with your product's value.

Commission wise, 100% is a good figure to work with because remember your intention here is not to profit (Again..at least not now!) but to build a proven buyers list faster and for the long term.

3)By offering top affiliates exclusivity - If you're really going for the very top e.g. top 5% of affiliates, it'll take much more to entice them. What you can do is perhaps to offer them, apart from high payouts/100% comm, exclusivity for promoting your product. That means only him/her/they get to promote your product exclusively for a limited period of time. You may choose then to open or reopen your offer to other affiliates anytime.

4)Last but not least, by building strong rapport with your affiliates. Contact them directly. Talk to them. Tell them how you want to help them make money. A smart affiliate will be quick to spot a good product and vendor. As long as you're genuine and your products worth it, most of them will jump in at the opportunity.

That's all I have for now...

Sry for the long post, but hope this helps...

    All the best
