How Good is Godaddy Hosting?

Hi All,

I'm thinking of having a secondary hosting account. How good is the hosting service from GoDaddy??

Please share your experience with it.. Especially the uptime and server speed.

Thank you.

I never recommend their low-cost shared hosting for customers who want to install PHP scripts because their PHP system has basic functionality missing, functionality that is offered as standard with even the lowest cost CPanel shared hosts such as Hostgator.

It can be added - but you need to upgrade to VPS or a dedicated server which obviously cost much more.

I only use godaddy for domain, not for hosting, some sites using godaddy is slower than other hosts (hostgator, dreamhost, lunapage...)

I'll repeat my same old mantra.

Stick to CPanel hosting. You know what you're getting and it works very, very well.

    I would not recommend GoDaddy.

What types of sites are you looking to host & what's your budget?

Godaddy is Good Domain Registrar but not the good hosting provider at all. There are horrible stories about their hosting. So, Just beware of it. You can go for jaguarpc, Namecheap etc.

There do appear to have been speed issues with Hostgator recently (see other thread) but it's debatable whether the best solution to that problem is to migrate to GoDaddy.

Botched migrations - telling customers they're getting "upgraded" as cover up for moving them to a completely different datacenter. I wouldn't exactly call it speed issues, the problems will continue.

I've been using godaddy for many years and had only a few minor issues. And all issues were resolved within 1 or 2 days. People are going to either hate or love godaddy. Just try it and you'll see.

Cheap but their basic hosting packages are shared IP plans.

Meaning you might be sharing with 1 other domain or 2,000.

I've had bad experiences with them being horribly slow ESPECIALLY...

On WordPress based sites. Spend the extra money and avoid GoDaddy.

    Wow!! Thank you guys!!

I was thinking about this as a cheap secondary option in case of emergencey. Wasn't planning to get the cheapest pack though.. Already on a VPS and shared hosting at hostgator. But hostgator seems quite slow lately. How good is the service of dream hosting?

That's true but some issues such as the limited PHP functionality (see above) cannot be resolved without moving up to their more expensive hosting offerings.

I use GoDaddy just when I can use real cheap coupons to
      purchase domain names.

I wont have my domains registered with my hosting company.

I would recommend no one ever uses GoDaddy.
There control panel has got to be one of the worst I have ever had the dis-pleasure to use.

Stick with hosts that offer cPanel, I normally recommend CrocWeb to my clients.

        Here's what I do:
Buy from GD using $2.95 coupon. Transfer to NC for $7.95.
Two years domain cost = $5.45
Quite often, I get $0.99 coupons and it's even cheaper.

GoDaddy is only good for domains. I used to have GoDaddy for hosting, but it's totally crap compared to the competition.

Joined HostGator recently and never looked back

Godaddy isn't even good for domains.
    Namecheap is much better.

To the poster above, Hostgator = Justhost = Bluehost (same company).
And it's lousy. Learn about EIG, monitor your sites. Most people are shock when they do this.
Your sites run much slower on EIG servers.

What do you want this secondary hosting account for? Is it to be a backup hosting if your primary host goes down? Is it for development? What's do you want to use it for?

I have a GoDaddy account that I got for free and I don't use it for anything, so I can't tell you much, if anything, about uptime. But I can say that as far as script execution speed (determined by measuring Wordpress page generation times), Godaddy hosting is faster than iPage and FatCow (and possibly many of the other lesser EIG brands), which I've also tested. That's not saying much though, so take that for what it's worth.

I hosted my images and video site with GoDaddy and regretted it after a month. My hosting was in Europe but support was unable to provide solutions for ongoing server problems. Then, to speed things up I migrated to CloudFlare CDN to try to speed things up and while it went fine for a month, GoDaddy started blocking CloudFlare. When I spoke to GoDaddy support they didn't even know what CloudFlare was. So - no - I would never recommend GoDaddy based on these experiences.

Interesting. We did have an issue a few months ago where GoDaddy did this by mistake (our engineers spoke with them) but this should be resolved in full now. When was this?

I use Godaddy to host my WP blogs and have done so for years with no problems. I have found their service to be friendly and knowledgeable and best of all available even at 2a in the morning when I need help with FTP or something.

I would not recommend hostgator, we was with them for over 10yrs and there service as gone down hill dramatically, slow server speeds, there sql server is diabolical and customer support gets worse and worse.

We recently moved to webhostingbuz and its fantastic, and much cheaper than hostgator.

Their main aim is selling domains and because of that I would not use them for hosting, I personally use host gator.

Who are you purchasing your domains from? If you're buying domains from GoDaddy, I would not use them to host those domains because you can run into some issues where you may find your domains being held hostage!

If you are buying domains from GoDaddy, I would use HostGator or some other reputable hosting company, not GoDaddy to host those domains.

I use HostGator and I'm pretty happy with the service I receive.

    Good luck!

I have no idea why people still suggest that in 2013. It's terrible. It's not even the same "Hostgator" anymore, not since summer 2012, and is nothing more than an EIG brand now. There are better hosts.
