Fellow Warriors,

I have a question on creating authority.

If you have a website about, for example, acting. How can you create authority on the subject when, in the 'real world' you haven't shown any results yet? Not sure how important this question is to people, anyone experience with this?

I mean, with dating websites it's always hard to tell if the person is successful in dating or not. But with subjects like acting, making music etc. it might be harder..

Thanks in advance,
Tijs

    Hey Tijs,

Your question is a little vague, do you mean you are thinking of getting into the acting niche but you are not one yourself so you are not sure if you will come across as credible..?

  • If you are thinking about setting up a website such as a blog that talks for example "all about acting", then you will have to be able to offer your audience helpful and reliable advice by either inviting real actors to guest post, or you do interviews with them if you yourself are not in the industry yourself.

As a non actor you really don't want to be writing articles about how to become an actor, etc. Same goes for music. There are however affiliates who promote entertainment related products on their sites without having industry experience, but it's usually easy to see that they are not in the industry, but merely marketers pushing product.

Either way, it's best not to pretend. Sadly though, there are many so called authority sites online of which the owner pretty much outsources all their articles etc. I don't necessarily agree with that concept.

Thanks for your replies, this is not what I meant, sorry for my vague question.

I'm in the business myself for almost 10 years, the thing is, I never went on making a name gor myself. So I can't show cool statistics of where and with whom I played. Question is, you think that's needed?

In an ideal world to be in your position it would be more benifitial if you had gone on to make it, however it is not the end of the world that you didn't.

You say you have been in the business for ten years... Well I bet you have learnt a lot and got a lot of contacts.

For example for me personally if I wanted to do a site about acting I could.

I went to drama school 8 years ago so I could write about the audition process, the best monologues to use, how to memorise lines easily, how to keep cool in auditions.

As well as that I have many friends from drama school who have gone on to be in TV shows and movies.

I could interview a different friend each week/month and ask them their top tips for the biz.

        The possibilities are endless.

My point is you don't need to be a Hollywood star to start an acting website.
