marketing ideas for a local service

Hi guys, can anyone give me some tips for promoting a local service?

my wife is a nail tech, and i'm assisting her with promoting her home biz.

i'm thinking of setting up a wordpress blog with a nice about me page,
and have her post tips on nail care along with a few new nail design images per week, and then maybe spreading out to local groups for our country on the social sites like hi5 and facebook, twitter, etc.

and maybe do some step by step videos and ebooks to post to you tube and the ebook directories.

the whole idea is to get lots of exposure to local groups online and get
them to sign up to get alerts when she ads new images and videos and articles, so as she post new designs, they can reply and book an appointment, and also to help her seem like an expert with informative articles.

any other ideas for online and offline promotion.

feel free to point me to some other links that i can review.

thanks guys.

    Here are some thoughts:

    1. Offer a free session for every referral that one of her clients sends her way.
    2. Create an email list of all her clients so when she has someone cancel she can send out a blast to her list to fill the spot and not miss any revenue.
    3. Create her own line of nail care products. PLR for physical products. Great publicity tactic. Plus then she could sell her products on a continuity basis.
    4. Offer free manicures to a local womens shelter. Again free publicity.
    5. Offer free reports online and off regarding "10 Things You Need To Know Before Hiring A Nail Tech" inlclude coupons etc.
    6. Press releases - i.e. hottest nail colors for 2009

    Hope that helps
    Matt

Wow, you really got some good ideas ther matt!

we started out with a simple classified joint venture ad:

her friend does facials/makeup and classes and my wife decided to offere a full set with 2 designs, for about $15 off what the going rate is. They combined there ad into one block with both numbers, and when persons called they took a message and had the other person call back.

and a lady at church with a huge amount of contacts did a lot of word of mouth too.

i also had her design a few of her cousins, we had a little bbq grill, and they signed up a few friends who will book her for prom coming up.

she got like 30 unique clients in one month

and i advised her to keep a calendar of who she expects each day, who she needs to remind a day before their booking, and most people need a 2 week re-touching.

thanks for your input, i'm gnna print all the feedback and work with her.

luckily for her i've got 10 years webdesign and marketing experience, and some of the best forums for ideas.

i need to dig up that local biz package i bought from paul meyers, lolol.

My sister does healing and put an ad on Craigslist and has had a lot of success. Since your wife is looking for local clients it might be worth a try.

Don't forget local search options like Google Maps (her business can appear at the top of the page for free whenever someone in your area searches for nail techs -- unless a lot of other nail techs are already registered, of course).

The there's geo-targeted ads of Adwords, etc.
