For How Long are Amazon Commissions Checks Valid For?!

Hey guys,

does anyone know when do amazon affiliate checks expire (from the date of the check)? Meaning, how long are they valid for?

Seems I haven't been paying attention and have a coupla expired ones here. Hope not.

      Here's a really weirder possibility:

I'm dressed up, ready to go to the bank now. Already contacted Amazon today, but of course, they take a while to answer.

So I thought, perhaps, just maybe perhaps, since the warrior forum is usually active, I can get an answer today to this simply question by a helpful warrior who's an affiliate?

        Fair enough.

Had you mentioned that you already contacted Amazon, I wouldn't have yanked your chain.

Scan the topics and see how many questions that belong in a company's support area, or even answered in an easily found FAQ, are posted here because the poster is too lazy to look for their own answer.

This is usually followed by a bunch of short answers followed by longer sigs.

Typically, business checks are valid for anywhere from 60 to 180 days from the issue date on the check, although I've personally deposited checks over a year old (not Amazon, though) and had them go through. Since the date isn't on the check itself, prepare for more wild guesses...

      Thanks a lot Ryan!

I thought they are like other companies's checks, that are valid for either only 3 months or 6 months... like Aweber for example.

  • It should say right on it how long it is valid for. Typically 180 days if I remember correctly.

It doesn't say on Amazon checks. Unlike other checks.

There must be a date of expiration written on the chewck. Adsense checks have date of expiration like 1 month I guess.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I already replied to Michael above and said it doesn't state that info (expiration) anywhere on Amazon checks. It only states the date of the check. Unlike other checks.

I cashed a cheque the other day which was six years old. The bank didn't batter an eye lid and the money went into my account. :/ That's where I got that idea! (this was a business cheque)

Fair enough! I promise you that's the exception, rather than the rule.

It depends what bank you cash it in. Technically they don't have to accept a cheque after six months or something. However, if the company that you are cashing the cheque from is large (and I guess Amazon is pretty large) they will honour it as the chances of the cheque bouncing are pretty slim. Therefore this guy has a pretty good chance of being able to cash it. He may be asked questions about why he waited so long though.

On that and on a few other things, too, normally.

I'm guessing from your spelling of "cheque" that you're in the UK, in which you'll be aware that the standard life of one in the UK is 6 months. But it varies according to the issuing company, as well - from ClickBank, for example (which is also a pretty "big company", albeit not in the same league as Amazon), they're good for only 3 months, regardless of where they're cashed.

        No fiction...
I don't know particularly about Amazon because I'm receiving my commission through bank but some checks do have expiration date...

There's a difference between some checks having expiration dates and your first assertion that all checks must have expiration dates.

Oh, and you may want to blur out your personal details, Raymond, especially given the admissions in some of your posts...

That's probably his pen-name under which he writes his fictional Amazon reviews. :p

Raymond, I've got to hand it to you, your ability to read my mind over the Internet is just incredible. Especially when you consider it's a recorded video on YouTube.

Next time, just blur out your name ...

Yes indeed, Adie. Nobody questioned that. I've seen a ClickBank check or two myself, believe it or not. If you read post #16 above, you'll see that I've already commented yesterday that CB checks are good for only 3 months, so you're hardly "proving anything to me".

That wasn't what you said, though, anyway. You said that there "must be" an expiry date written on the check, and that's just plain wrong.

Just because checks say they are void in 30,60,90 etc. days, doesn't mean that it is true.

It is up to the bank you are cashing/depositing it at if they want to accept the check.

It's also up the issuing bank if they want to honor it, hello ...

Thanks for the advise about the name but I don't find it necessary.... And those Amazon reviews? Oh yeah, they are pretty effective

Yes, but I don't want gamble my precious time going to the bank after that 90 days time without calling them first..

It varies country to country. In India, normally banks do not honour cheques more than 6 months old

        In the USA:
        1. The "Void After 90 Days" is not binding on the bank, they may or may not pay the check.
        2. After the bank teller (or first human at the bank) handles the check it is not likely to be seen or touched again, no less looked at to check the date.
        3. The other thing that comes into play is U.C.C.4-404.
BANK NOT OBLIGED TO PAY CHECK MORE THAN SIX MONTHS OLD.

A bank is under no obligation to a customer having a checking account to pay a check, other than a certified check, which is presented more than six months after its date, but it may charge its customer's account for a payment made thereafter in good faith
but for that to come in to play go back to 2 above. If you make a deposit of a single stale check (six months) the teller is likely to not accept it. If you give the teller a stack of 20 checks...

A final note, if you try to test one of these (#1 or #2 above) keep in mind that if it's accepted initially and the bank on which it is drawn sends it back, your bank probably has a "returned item" fee.

Another final note, if the check is expired, Amazon probably still owes you some money, and that money may be claimed by you, see UNIFORM UNCLAIMED PROPERTY ACT
