Attracting Customers and Email Marketing

We have opened a new store and are looking for customers. We have tried a number of marketing methods with limited success. Setting up an affiliate program is on the list of things to do but for now we are researching email marketing.

Now something we don't want to do is buy email lists. I know you argue that purchasing lists is legal but it might not be ethical. The possibility of a server shutdown is not worth it and we don't want to give the wrong first impression.

So....What we are interested in is placing ads in newsletters or sending solo ads to introduce our new store. Does anyone have any experience with this and/or ideas or advice on how we can go about this effectively?

  • Chromefox,

Have you given any thought to PPC advertising. Specifically in search like Google AdWords or Microsoft AdCenter? These can be very effective at getting the targeted traffic that you need.

Also, email marketing is effective too. You don’t have to buy lists. Just grow a list of your own. For example you can offer content in the form of an ebook or whitepaper and require an email in exchange for downloading it. If you are worried about ethical implications you can always include a disclosure that you will send further correspondence if they submit an email or whatever you feel comfortable doing.

Here are some other tips for growing an email list,

What about A Facebook Fan Page?

Also to get customers with email marketing don't always send a link with something to buy. Give them good information and they will keep on reading your emails. After awhile you can send some offers via email.

The reason I stated Fascebook abo=ve was because it is a very good way to target who you want to see your ads.

I do a lot of Advertising for local businesses. I've found that very targeted methods do especially well. More than just throwing up I targeted fb ads. Be prepared to hire someone or spend a lot of time learning, testing and refining.
