Quantcast.com can give some great insights into demographics. But in my experience it doesn't cover as many sites as Alexa. You should be ok with the major sites though.

Alexa may have info on more sites but it will generally be less accurate than Quantcast. At Quantcast publishers sign up to have their sites tracked so the results are much more accurate.

Another site worth checking out is Compete.com

I don't trust some of Alexa's data anymore.

I combine the data from both Quantcast and Compete.

Can anyone please explain the recent changes at Quantcast.com and how to use it now? I emailed their support but they said it can take up to 2 business days to reply.

Actually, I just received a reply.

"While we still show estimated traffic data, we are no longer showing estimated demographic profiles for non Quantified sites. Currently we only display directly measured demographics for sites that have opted to Quantify and make their data public."

      Hmmm...anyone else?

Alexa.com is $49.00 per month for in-depth demographic insight. I thought the basic plan might have the feature, so I got the 30 day free trial, but it doesn't. I contacted their support and they said there is no free trial for the $49.00 plan.

I've been searching Google for a free alternative for a couple hours now and have come up empty. It's amazing how many articles I'm finding that are from 2007-2012. It would be nice to find something current! Well, there ARE several listings for Quantcast.com, but that no longer being an option is why I'm doing this in the first place.

Oh well. I guess I'll take a look through Bing real quick to see if I can find anything current over there, but if not, I'll have to pony-up the cash. The cost of doing business, I guess. I hate that I have nothing to compare it too, though.

      Anyone else have any ideas?

It isn't working anymore. As I already mentioned, I got this from them earlier after contacting their support.

"While we still show estimated traffic data, we are no longer showing estimated demographic profiles for non Quantified sites. Currently we only display directly measured demographics for sites that have opted to Quantify and make their data public."

It looks like unless a website opts to make their data public, Quantcast.com has either chosen, or is being forced, not to share it.

I agree, I've found that most of the sites I looked at in Quantcast didn't have the demographics or weren't listed...pretty frustrating...will try compete.

yeah, a lot of the recent wsos on fb ad targeting say to use quantcast to get your target audience's demographics to get the cheapest clicks. but that's worthless now, and i don't see any free alternative. the wsos or courses don't mention that of course. i'm thinking that using a tool like social lead freak or similar will still get you the cheap clicks.

This is an old post, but I found that Display Planner works well for just basic demographics. Doesn't have spending power unfortunately.
