First off I would like to introduce myself.

I've been lurking on these forums for awhile now just scoping things out. Started up a couple websites purely for experience. I would have liked to make some money off them, but I've fallen into the trap of jumping around with to many ideas and not fully committing to something. Through this whole process I've had one idea that I really feel I could do really well with.

It would be considered an authority site, so I want to make sure I have all my ideas written out with a clear direction of where I want to go. Once I get everything up and running I'm definitely willing to tweak things as needed based off feedback. Which brings me to my question:

Do any of you guys write out a business plan for your online ventures? If so how would you go about it?

I look forward to your insight,
AK

    I write out a plan. It's not a full on business plan but it is thorough enough.

    As the saying goes-if you FAIL to plan, you are PLANNING TO FAIL.

    Yes, I do. Start with how much you want to earn and when you want to achieve that. For example, you want to earn $1,000 within 1 month. It means you need to make $250/week or $36/day.

    If your profit per sale is $50, than you'll need to make at least 5 sales per week. How many clicks approximately do you need to generate 1 sale? For example, if you need 50 clicks/sale, than you'll need at least 250 clicks/week or around 36 clicks/day.

    So, now you need to plan how to get 36 clicks/day. You don't focus on "how to earn $1000 in 4 weeks" anymore, but "how to get 36 clicks/day". Sounds more attainable?

    Hope it helps,
    eL

    Planning too far ahead isn't practical although it is nice to have long term goals. I find it a practical approach to plan short term goals which you can achieve say within 6 months and how you're going to do it.

    very helpful guys I appreciate all of you input.

    @cynzdareveur

    I really like the way you set that up. By breaking it down into smaller more attainable goals I could see it being less stressful. I will most certainly give this a shot. Thanks!

    We try to follow a medium term approach with Long Range Programs (much like overall Goals) then Plans.....(ways to reach those goals) then project lists with specific ways to accomplish the Plans. My husband is a visionary type, big picture thinker and I am a detailed one-step-at-a-time kind of person so it depends on your brain type too. Don't try to force yourself into a model that you're not likely to fit into without resistance i.e. "round peg square hole". Peace.
