Ground Zero:Where to start?

Hey everyone,

I've been reading the forums for quite sometime. I feel comfortable with a lot of the terms and have a decent understanding of some of the different processes people use, but my question is where is the absolute first place to start?

I was leaning towards affiliate marketing to get started, but are there any complete guides that layout exactly how to approach it and aren't a making money gimmick?

This one's particularly good, and reliable, and the author (a Warrior herself) is "the real thing" (and not one of the people selling IM information just because they find it the easiest way to make any money from IM!): Affiliate marketing training for beginners

Actually, there are so many guides like ebooks and everything talking about how newbies should start but the topics are so various. The problem most newbies have that usually make them running in circle unconsciously is because of too many distractions.

You need a mentor or a person you can consult with, to make sure that you're focused and you do it the right way. Newbies have the tendency to hop on one business to another every time they see "the next big thing". For example, in affiliate marketing (if you choose this one), you don't want to try promoting this, then it doesn't give me profit in a week, then you find something you think more promising so you hop on that new one. This circle would go on and on and on until one point you feel like there's no profitable business or I can't earn any commissions.

The point is, have the correct mindset. Good luck!

Thanks for the info! Where would be a good place to track down a mentor like you mentioned? Do you have any tips as far as determining if they're a good and reliable mentor and around what a fair cost would be?

      Thank you!

Independently verifiable references (i.e. people you can actually talk with, not just "testimonials" to read: every mentor worth their value has some former clients who will talk to "potential clients": if they don't, something's very wrong).

It depends on many things and varies a lot. I think the key question is "How much do you want/expect someone mentoring you to be earning themselves, from their own successful IM business, and roughly what's their hourly rate likely to be on that sort of basis?"

Be careful. The principle is a good and valid one, and it can work well, but there are also many people (including here) who offer "mentoring"/"coaching" because it's much easier for them to make money that way than it is in their own IM business (and there are even a few rogues who will offer "mentoring" as a disguised sales promotion of their own, to try to "sponsor people" into a business, or whatever - keep away from that!).

I don't think there is any better place to start learning than right here on the WF. This is ground zero for IM. If you are a visual learner, Shoemoney has a great FREE course over at udemy.

First of all you need the desire, perseverance and mindset to succeed >>>>> next you need to dig down into a 'business model' rather than a method. You mentioned affiliate marketing, but what type? Niche sites? By way of list building? It's important you follow a model that suits your situation, personality and resources >>>>>> Lastly you need to execute the plan and not get distracted. Distraction and info overload are the number one killers for newbies, trust me I know. So once you embark upon your chosen model and process you need to stick with it.

Pick the right model and things will be easier.

    Hi,
You have to pick something and stick with it. You can't bounce around from one thing to another.

You will never get anywhere by doing that. There are several posts on my blog that deal with affiliate marketing. If you want info and would like to visit my blog. PM me.

    Good luck

    Step 1:

Create a product. Really even if your going to be an affiliate that is a very good step 1.

      That doesn't make any sense.

He stated that he's just getting started with internet marketing and your suggestion is for him to just create a product and rehash other people's information.

In essence, you are suggesting for him to sell theory and market it as real world experience. You don't see anything wrong with that kind of thinking?

Here's my suggestion to the OP, find someway that you can offer value. REAL value. Not just rehashed information that you read in some article 20 minutes ago.

Focus on solving needs, and pinpoint a niche where there is a problem and you can offer them a solution.

If you can focus on doing that, you WILL make money online.

It is difficult to get started. There are a lot of great programs and people to learn from. Just doing a quick Google search could give you more business models than you could possibly profit from. I like the creation of Kindle books or Niche websites as a way to get started. They don't involve a whole lot of expertise and the level of work is well within the range of a "one man show" type of operation. There are great business models that can make millions but most of them involve leveraging knowledge and effort that is beyond the scope of most beginners.
My advice to get started is to just do a little research and find a niche with good volume and profit potential and not a lot of competition. A search on the ClickBank marketplace should yield some information. You're looking for a gravity between 25-50, big enough to yield sales, not so big to be competing with the big dogs (not yet anyway ). You don't need to promote these products just use them as a launch pad to do your niche research. Once you find a niche you want to develop a business plan. This will outline what your budget is and your plan of action. Once you have those tasks out of the way you are ready to get started. Definitely develop your business plan before start building a website or developing a strategy for traffic. This will help you to stay focused.

      Greatest success

Just get a sheet of paper and write down EVERYTHING you're interested and stuff that you've done.

Then have a think about whether they would be good niches. Check to see if somebody's already started a forum about them for example.

      Hi bagelpirate,

It's a difficult place to start but you need to have a system that works for you. A system you can use over and over (rinse and repeat) There are things you need to do and know to be able to do affiliate martketing and these need to be structured.

If you PM me, I'll give you a free copy of my affiliate marketing start up guide, I sell it for $37 but I want to help you get going so it's on me!! No strings, no gimmicks. It's a simple step by step guide (PDF and videos) to give you a good idea of where to start and what you'll need to get started.

      Wishing you success,

      Steve Cottrell.
