What does "Evergreen" mean?

I've seen this word used now and then, and I can't figure out what it means. Does it mean something that is constantly "Refreshed"? Like content that is automatically updated?

It means a niche or product offering that won't dry up because
demand is timeless - ie. "how to have your perfect wedding".

Internet marketing courses, because the technology changes,
    are not evergreen.

"basket weaving" is - the technology is established and is
    unlikely to change.

Yeah, I have heard of it used before. Evergreen. Just change it to timeless. For example, how to shoot pictures like a pro is "evergreen" versus how to shoot pictures with 35mm is not timeless.

How to make pizza is timeless, all you need is bread, yeast, salt, sugar, water, tomatoe, and cheese. How to make a homemade iPod is not because one day it will go out of style.

But I suppose evergreen niches are harder to penetrate. Lots of marketers would understandably already have sites on evergreen niches

Certainly worth investigating as you will definitely get more mileage out of the content you create. Make sure you build some good deep backlinks and you can continue earning money far into the future.

i've researched the word "evergreen" and this are its meaning:

    if used as an adjective:
    1. Having foliage that persists and remains green throughout the year.
    2. Perenially fresh or interesting; enduring.

but if it is a noun:
    1. A tree, shrub, or plant having foliage that persists and remains green throughout the year.
    2. evergreens Twigs or branches of evergreen plants used as decoration.

    hope this helps

    Great Explanations Guys...

To Me an evergreen product is one that
does not mention the year in it.

Aswell as what you guys have mentioned already.

In my own business, I try for a good balance of evergreen products. Since I market to Internet marketers and those who want to create digital products, it's not always possible. But even here, some can be quite evergreen. Writing a book never changes, just the technology for downloading it does.

Fortunately, with PDF files it's not difficult to update your products as some things change, and thus keep the green on the branches.

The term evergreen come from the evergreen tree. Their leaves never fall off year round. Hence the term evergreen or ever-lasting.

Evergreen markets are markets that will always be in demand and sales remain constant year round. Even during recessions.

The evergreen info-product is actually pretty rare. This
is why authors continue to crank-out books - the books
they wrote last year don't sell after awhile.... so even the
permanence and care of real publishing doesn't ensure
ongoing demand at all... even for well-researched books
    in good niches.

    Case-in-point - I don't remember why, but I wrote to the
author of a book I own about how to start and run a
carpentry business (I was a tradesman in my former life
and thoroughly clueless about the business end of it) -
and he told me the book had sold about 6 copies the
    previous year.

... and it's a good book and still relevant. It's not dated
    in most ways.

But despite being a good book on a topic you would expect
to be evergreen, sales are anything but.

There are a lot of contributing factors - mostly that the
publisher doesn't promote the book or try to place it in stores -
but more importantly for us the same sort of information
is now available online... for FREE - not from authors, but
    from Peers in the trade.

Same thing with a lot of niches. When the same basic content
goes into the public domain - information about radio controlled
cars, for example, the need to BUY your product will virtually
    disappear.

So basically you still have to be on your toes.

To me the meaning of "EVERGREEN" in the IM and MMO niches truly means NEVER ENDING. It is something that never goes "out of style". Something that "will stand the test of time". Things like: Make Money, Health, Baseball, Football and most major sports, Cooking, Pets, Travel, Camping, Fishing, Hunting, etc...

In my opinion, "evergreen" in Internet Marketing refers to products that will not date.

So, for example, if you produce a product today on "how to make money from Facebook", it could be out of date as soon as tomorrow, depending on when Facebook decide to change their platform.

The same goes for all techie related products.

However, if you made a guide called "The Top 100 Classic Knitting Patterns That Will Never Date", you have half a chance.

Knitting, gardening, losing weight (to a certain extent, but ideas change on that one), exercise etc would all be good 'evergreen niches'.

    Hope that helps.
