Are IM'ers generous? Kevin Riley says to pledge a %

I just watched Kevins latest Success Manifesto video on Karma, and a thought came into my mind. I have given money to sites like Kiva.com , American Red Cross, and WWF as a one time thing.

Do you give to charities? As a one time thing, or % of sales?

I've also seen WSO's used to raise money for a fellow warrior who is in need of help for an operation etc..

Are IM'ers more generous than other groups?

I donate 10% of my income to random charities, with no expectation of anything in return

I give to a different charity every month, just do it to help people out plus it feels good

I do not think it's based on a certain group of people, I think it is based on the person... I do not list it on any sales pages or on any WSO but a % of my earnings always goes to help someone else.

I give a monthly donation to TBN - Trinity Broadcasting Network and have sent several large box fulls of brand new shoes to Soles4Souls • A shoe charity giving shoes to those in need There are many other things I do but as stated above I think it really depends upon the person.

    Hi Mate,

Personally, It is a way to give back to people.

When you get to a certain level of success it is
only natural to give back to charities. Alot of
people have their own reasons and charities.

But I give back because there are people out there
that literally need the help. And because the
universe has been good to me I will be good back.

I think everyone should be giving to their own
charity...not just Internet Marketers or Business
    owners.

    What goes around comes around....

    Take Care,

    Michael Silvester

Actually (hopefully without spoiling the video for others) I use my pledge as a way to push me to push harder with my business. Works well, as I feel guilty when I slip a bit one month and the amount is less.

It always surprises me I see people that are appalled at giving any amount of money to charity or to a homeless person, etc..

It is always good to give. They really can use it more than you can.

I don't have a set amount or percentage that I donate regularly, but I donate to charities when I can.

I'm a cancer survivor (embryonal carcinoma, a rather aggressive form of testicular cancer that had spread all the way to my left lung by the time I started chemo) so obviously two of my favorite "pet charities" are the Lance Armstrong Foundation (livestrong.org) and the American Cancer Society (cancer.org).

    Hi David,
I think I have an answer for you on that one.

At the tail end of last year I conducted some research in this area and have created a report detailing the outcome.

Believe it or not, IMer's are not necessarily as generous as others and there is a good reason for it...

    Reciprocal Profits Download

This report will be released in the wild officially soon but I would appreciate any feedback fellow warriors have to offer on it.

I think it was in a Jack Canfield book where I read the best explanation of tithing.

    (Paraphrasing now)

Tithing is not about giving money in the hope of a greater return. Tithing is a thanks for what you have already received.

    Cheers,
    Tom

Well said Tom .... You should never expect anything in return for what you do ....

Forbes recently quoted an article that showed that people who gave money to others like charities were happy than when they spent it on themselves. Win Win really.

Charity is what charitable people hand out. It is largesse.

While I can agree that setting aside a fixed percentage of your income can be a great way to put the whole thing on an impersonal and automatic footing, I also agree that some charities should be closely examined because of the enormously high salaries being claimed by board members and 'names' and because of the obscene amount of money they sit on.

Nobody has ever satisfactorily explained why charities can have millions in the bank and then send out tin rattlers - some of whom receive 50% of what they collect!

I think Kevin's idea is sound and he has obviously discovered a good way to get real value out of his donation and knows some of the beneficiaries - that, in my opinion, is far more important than the fact that he gave.

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.
Build it, make money, then build some more
Some old school smarts would help - and here's to Rob Toth for his help. Bloody good stuff, even the freebies!

Tithing is a very important concept you either learn growing up from your parents or from your life's journeys.

My oldest son gets an allowance - some for simple chores and some for learning purposes. He understands money just doesn't come from the ATM machine (something my 5 yo still thinks).

He has to put 10% away for charity, 10% for savings, and then he can spend the rest on what he wants - with my guidance - otherwise I'd be single handedly increasing the share value of Krispy Kreme and Mattel ;-)

While a scientist and engineer I do firmly believe in Karma and in the philosophy of paying it forward.

    best,

I started a new program this year. I am contributing up to 50% of my income to charities, the Maximum allowed by the IRS.

I'd rather give it to some charity I care about rather than someone Obama owes favors.
