Biggest Single Impact On Your Site?

Hi,

Has anyone made a single change to their site which has had a significant impact on the success of their site. For example, have you added or removed banners, added a discount section, made your blog more prominent or paid for a professional logo and seen your revenue increase by 25%?

    Yes and No.

    I'll explain:

Websites are not common things, like an old car, sitting in the corner of the most busy street waiting to be sold. In a car, you can remove the dark banner and put a new one, pink for example, and you'll see more people looking.

    Success!

But in a website, you can't control everything, cause Google can love ya more, a major tweeter player can share your URL, your site can go viral on wicked... So those small changes can have impact and you don't see it, or they can have NO impact all all, and you are misguided.

But yes, you can, and should tweak your stuff, while watching traffic, conversions, sales, etc.

I changed the layout on some of my sites, and noticed a better conversion rate. I don't have those sites now, but I did do allot of testing and found that small changes can make a huge difference.

Even slight color changes can make a difference. I built a series of sites a few years ago and made a slight color change to a beige color in my side bar and it made a huge conversion difference. It's one of my last AdSense sites from years ago.

I changed the headline, and ONLY the headline, of one of my websites and literally TRIPLED the number of conversions I was getting.

The conversions I was tracking were the amount of people who downloaded my free report at the bottom of a landing page on which I gave away free, high-quality information.

When I A/B tested the headline, I went from about 11% conversions to about 34% conversions.

Now THAT'S the power of split testing!

Changing something on your website is just like changing any parts of any page. It matters. That's why we need to always test and tweak till we reach our desired conversion rate. Sometimes a little change, which doesn't seem to matter so much can bring a lot difference. Moving the place from left to center, for example.

I noticed a significant change in adsense conversions on my blogs when I switched them to a 2 column layout with a 300x250 ad on the top right. This was after testing SEVERAL different ad formats and the layout of my sites.

With one of my squeeze pages, I noticed much better conversions by simply changing the title around. I followed one of the golden marketing rules of showing visitors as quickly as possible... "how will this benefit me".

On one of my clients ecommerce sites, I did a banner, which pretty much show a delivery guy who delivers the product to happy customer. I also put the store logo on the box and the conversion went up significantly. When it come to online stores, people need to see that you are realy deal. You have to gain their trust (:
