Which order do I do these things?

I am about to create my very first website, and I know I need to start it on wordpress, buy a domain, and pay for hosting. Can someone please give me the order I do these things? Also if you could give me your favorite sites for the last two it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Buy domain, get hosting then put up a site.

You can get domains from loads of places and everybody will
have their particular favorite but the truth is they're all much
of a muchness. Try namecheap.com or one of the other bigger
    players.

As for hosting you may want to check out webhostingtalk.com
for recommendations but stay away from hostgator.

Do a search on the forum to see the problems people had just
    recently.

    Good luck

Buy your domain. I use http://rackspace.com. You can find templates at Premium WordPress Themes by StudioPress

Typically, you'll find tons of free themes are injected with malware/spam etc etc. It's recommended to pay a few bucks for a premium theme. ThemForest is a good resource as well.

As for web hosting, try to avoid the "unlimited" disk space & bandwidth. There's no such thing as either one and reading their Terms Of Service you'll find you're in fact very limited on what you can use.

Find a few web hosts that look appealing and contact them. Judge their responses & how knowledgeable & courteous they are. Then, make an educated decision on which one to choose - don't base solely on price.

Then, for the future of your site(s) ALWAYS backup your data, even if the web host provides backups as they may not always work properly.

You have two options... either free or paid.

There's plenty of good free ones so when you're just starting out
use those. Later when you've made some money or just want
a cooler looking site you can easily change themes.

My best advice to you would be to just jump in and give it a go.

It's the best way to learn and there's really not too many mistakes
you can make at this early stage.

    Good luck!

You will need your domain and hosting first. I have been using namecheap for over 10 years and have never had a problem. Stay away from GoDaddy! They have hidden fees for domain problems.

Next is hosting. I have a HostGator VPN with CPanel which has been awesome plus HostGator's support is pretty decent and they have QuickInstall so you can install WordPress in a few clicks. If you are planning on having more than one domain, then consider a reseller account which will give you a WHM to manage accounts and Cpanel to manage individual accounts. Cpanel is very versatile and user friendly and there are tons of video tutorials on the net. Stick with an apache/Cpanel/MySQL server as it's super common and easy to use once you learn the basic skills.

Here are some video tutorials on using Namecheap and HostGator (Cpanel)

Here is also where you can find themes mostly for free, but I would learn how to use WordPress first and practice managing plugins.

      You mean VPS, not VPN.
Most hosts have a one-click install. Softaculous is the best one. Installatron isn't bad either.
Hostgator support is very slow compared to other hosts.
HG has horrible iops/IO on its drives, meaning you sites are all much slower than average.

ThemeForest has good paid theme for ~$50.

Domain, hosting, install wordpess, install template on wordpress.

Before this you need to pick a niche however, and understand what you want, and how to market.

    Buy a domain.
    Pay for hosting.
    Install Wordpress.

I use GoDaddy for the domain purchase and Hostgator for hosting it. Just my personal preference. If you go this route you will need to point the nameservers from the place you bought the domains to the place hosting them, but this is a painless task.

If you choose a free theme then make sure it is on the wordpress site itself as they monitor themes and won't allow any themes with hacker code in (they try anyway).

I found a free theme on Woothemes that is not on wordpress.org. Does that mean I should not use it?

    1. Buy a domain.

    2. Buy webhosting.

    3. Change nameservers on domain to point to webhosting

    4. Install WordPress

This is where the hard work begins...

Normally when you buy a hosting with 1 year plan you will get 1 FREE domain so you can follow these steps below:

    1. Buy a hosting (registered your desired domain while checking out)
    2. Go to Hosting Cpanel and setup Wordpress with 1-click install feature (MOJO market)
    3. Install theme + plugins then put some content
    4. Your site is up
