Selling an ebook via Kindle or Facebook.. Please help.

Hi all. I have a fan page on facebook called build your confidence and have over 50k likes. I am writing an ebook and I am trying to decide if I should sell it through Kindle or via my page. I also don't know what type of percentage to expect, I was hoping for 10% of followers to buy the product, am I over or underestimating.. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Tony.

Well, I have good results with kindle now. Try to work on creating an awesome cover. That will help you sell more. Also, give copies away. OK then ask people to give you a review. Mostly, you need over nine. Yeah, to get things going. Have you ever got a book with zero reviews. Hey, we do not think so. It is important that you get your book into the hands of big name reviewers. Best of luck to you.

Hoping 10% will buy something is a severe over-estimate- you will be lucky to get half of 1% no matter how good your content is.

Why not try both? Just to make sure you will not be disappointed, why don't you keep your estimations at 5%?.

    • Thanks Ronrule and Lowelly.....part of amazons terms and conditions is that you cannot sell your book anywhere else, not even on your own website. I get approx 200 new likes per day but will I get 200 new views of my book per day on kindle without marketing it, if im marketing it myself then wouldnt it make more sense to sell it myself and not pay kindle.??

You can sell your book on both your site and for Kindle unless you join the KDP Select program. That is the program that allows you to run free giveaway days on Kindle. If you don't join that program then you can sell your books anywhere.

Why not sell your book on the Kindle platform and use your Facebook fan page as a source of promotion? If you enroll in the KDP Select Program, you could promote your free promo days via your fan page for downloads/reviews.

Should you decide to go the Kindle route, I think you'll be surprised at how easy it is to get your book up and running.

I'd suggest making it a Kindle book until you have a massive following in social media. But at that point, you could use those avenues to promote the Kindle book anyway. Kindle is amazing because you get sales on autopilot; that's probably its biggest advantage.

But don't stop there. You can still publish on Amazon and also put your ebook on Barnes and Noble, and several other places such as iTunes, Kobo, and a few others via Smashwords. It's good to have your ebook distributed in as many different sources as possible. You may find that you get another 20%-30% in profits by doing that instead of going exclusive on Amazon.

This is true, unless you enroll in the KDP Select program to take advantage of the 5 free promotional days. For the duration of 90 days (unless you choose to renew every 90 days), the book remains exclusive to Amazon only and cannot be distributed elsewhere (even your own website).

If you just have the one book start with making it exclusive to Kindle for 90 days and do the free promo. Even though you cant sell it directly you can still link to it from Facebook, your website etc.
And you can even use aff. links on Twitter and FB if you are an associate.

Get some more books written and then consider branching out to other platforms.

Publishing on Kindle takes the headache out of fulfilling orders yourself and dealing with customer service, and if you sell at $2.99+ then you get 70% of the sales. As well as traffic you get from your marketing efforts to your 50k fans on Facebook, you would also have organic Amazon traffic. I'd suggest selling on Amazon but marketing to your FB audience to drive sales.

I would personally do both. Once you create the Kindle book, you can post it on your Facebook page. I have been to many Facebook pages that seemingly are created for the purpose of marketing a Kindle book. It's on topic and provides great pics and info. But once a day the link is posted to the Facebook account. Great way to share your link socially. Since they are doing that, it will probably be successful for you since you have so many likes. Good luck!
