19 Days of hard work - wasted!

This was something bugging me from the start - niche selection.

I decided that I would choose the law of attraction as my target niche market. For 19 days, I was stuck in front of my desktop trying to setup a squeeze page, writing up a 23 page report and all that.

But today I decided to check google trends for the keyword "law of attraction" and that was when it hit me. The law of attraction is actually a declining market. The only companies and websites that stayed strong were the ones that had a huge marketing budget or were already too popular.

But on the bright side, I found a more profitable niche market. When I found out that the law of attraction wasn't a very profitable niche anymore, I decided to go deeper and try to find a sub-sub-niche.

I typed in the term "attract money".

By golly, the results were booming. The term "attract money" is currently at its strongest this 2013.

So the past 19 Days of hard work and sweat turned out to be for nothing. But, I found a more profitable market. I still have two and half months to create a full-time income on the internet so I only hope this works for me.

So this is what it feels like to fail, huh?

This is what it feels like to succeed at failing

Awesome post @Norahthenewbie, this is where a lot of people QUIT. They do some work, don't get the results they want or in your case, realise they're not in the right niche, so they then assume that they will never be able to succeed.

What you've done, is very smart! You turned what could be used as a negative, into a positive!

Keep up that mindset and you are guaranteed to succeed!

I chose entrepreneurship over further education despite being laughed at by my friends and family..

I recently hit the "RESTART" button on my life, read my personal blog to find out how I did it :)

Law of Attraction is a growing market. You have to think long term 5 to 10 years. Not this year. And Law of Attraction will forever be a growing market as long as there is 99% of the population that is lost and searching for answers.

I like both the replies above even though they're making totally different points from me.

That isn't necessarily a reason to try it, Nora.

I appreciate that there's a way of looking at it as a growing sub-niche of a niche in which you're interested. But there are other ways of looking at it, too, which may be more relevant and more important as to how they affect your potential income from it. It also perhaps overlaps a little with "make money online".

I think this post and the four other threads linked-to inside it may help you a little. I hope they do. It seems to me that there's a risk here of your selecting a niche just according to keyword research findings, and if I can help you to see through/behind/beyond that mistake, it would be nice for both of us: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post8367277

(By the way, your 19 days' work wasn't wasted. It was part of the learning-curve, and you probably learned more from it than it feels like at this moment, too ).

It can feel a lot worse than that, believe me. I've wasted lots of money on things that didn't work, but the time was always counted as part of the learning experience, part of the journey. Keep up with that great attitude and I'm sure you'll meet your goals!

I wouldn't say those 19 days of hard work were wasted, necessarily. If it wasn't for those initial days of discovery and research, it may not have lead to the niche that you are chasing now.

So no, you didn't fail - it just took you a little bit of time and effort to get to where you wanted to go.

Don't put too much stock in that. Decline, even if true, does not mean dead. In fact, it presents an opportunity for you, especially if the big boys believe in the decline and start leaving the space.

At the very least, it will dissuade riff raff.

My primary business is in a niche of less than 30,000 total prospects.
Some of my competitors are quite large, well known, and have been in business for decades.
I started my business in 2010. Within weeks I was blowing them away in organic search.
At the end of 2011, I had a 25%+ market share of that tiny niche and they need my product biannually.

You don't need to slay a dragon to become fat and happy.

I don't care if it's in decline. Did you do a keyword search? You've got roughly 250,000 monthly and competition is low. Sounds like a great opportunity to me.

So how many can you grab? How about a low goal of 1/10 of one percent? With a $20 product, that's $5,000/mo. Not enough? Sell more or raise your prices.

    It's all in the numbers.

You've done the work so you have little or nothing to lose by getting it out there. But guess what? The real gem is what putting your faith in trends (as misguided as it may be) has done for you...

You now know what your second product is!

And you grow from there. By this time next year you could have a thriving site with subniches too: money, love, career, health, etc.

LOL, no, those days aren't lost.

You've learned how to set up a squeeze page, right? And presumably how to format an ebook, and all other "administrative" aspects of a website.

Before settling for my main website, I've started a personal development website and lost many, many hours researching, writing, setting up stuff, etc. But I don't regret one second, because I've learned a lot of things along the way that made it easier to set up my current website.

Anyway, it's good to see you'll give it another try and don't give up and then say IM is a myth.

    Norah,

19 days to set up a squeeze page and write a 23 page report is a LONG TIME to just put it away and think that it was worthless.

And it's not failing, it's learning. You learned that maybe you should do a little more research next time (although I agree with JD here, just because it's in decline doesn't mean that you can't do something with it).

I'll share a little trick with you that I learned from Jason Fladlien, mk?

Set hard deadlines on the things you work on. So, the next time that you're going to say, set up a new squeeze page, give yourself one day to make the page.

Next time you're going to write a report, give yourself just one day to do it (do your research and get notes beforehand, it will make it undoubtedly easier).

Need a headline? Give yourself 5 minutes to come up with one.

The idea is at the end of these deadlines you give yourself, you've GOT to take action.

Squeeze page isn't as "perfect" as you want? Go live anyways and start working on traffic.

There's always room for improvement later, but to improve on something, it's got to be live and doing something, otherwise you're working on a car that is just sitting in a garage that you've never tried to see if it can even start up.

Hard deadlines on things will make your life much easier as an Internet Marketer. Because instead of "Man, I wasted 19 days" you'll be saying "Well, in three days I got this up, done, and ready to go, but it still isn't doing as well as I like. But it is live, I'm seeing results, and I can do better next time."

You are so right Sean. That's my failing - not setting hard deadlines so thanks for the reminder. And Jason Fladlien is a smart cookie - and one to emulate in many ways. Particularly decontstructing a method, then identifying the 20% of actions within it that give 80% of the results.

      Got me thinkin'...

You're going to make mistakes along the way, which is good, because if your making mistakes it also means you are making decisions.

When I first started I made so many mistakes, to list them all here would be quite ridiculous. In fact just today I made quite the blunder in the WSO section. It happens, you pick up the pieces and move on.

But never give up. Don't throw your work away simply because it didn't go the way you wanted. In fact, I would still continue with your plans for your original niche. Why? Because there are a million different ways to gauge a market. I don't have specific numbers to back this up at the moment, but I do believe the "Law of Attraction" market is still as hot today as it was two years ago.

If it wasn't there wouldn't still be hundreds of sites trying to cash in.

    Very unlikely.

Don't mean to burst your bubble but being realistic about things it probably won't happen that quickly (if it happens at all).

That's very realistic if you set your mind to it. Of course you need to have things in place, know what it takes to generate a "full-time income", you need goals, daily action plans, desire, persistency, vision, clearity, determination and an abundance mindset to make it happen.

But when you do, it's pretty realistic

      It's all about the decesion.

I don't think your time was wasted at all. Let me tell you, I've spend many weeks trying to learn about how to sell, etc. I bought a few products that just basically gave me an inkling into how to do some squeeze pages, etc, until I figured out I need to:
    1. Slow down and read what I can before buying things
    2. Look at what works
    3. Understand that success comes from failures and actually trying techniques(testing)

I don't think you'll be successful if you just think success is going to come at you on a platter without having to work for it. Good luck!

That's too bad, almost a month of work for nothing. I did hear someone say once that every wrong answer is a step towards finding the right one and maybe everything wasn't for nothing if you have success with the attract money niche.

Kind of misleading title .. nothing is lost if you have it done. You can use the product, sell it, wait for the market to grow or any other of the 1000 options..

    Only 19 days?

    I've wasted years.

    And I keep on coming.

PS: It's really not a waste.. Because you learned something.

Was it highly efficient and optimized? That's a topic of debate.

    But wasted?

    Nah.

  • the had thing most new entrepreneurs have to grasp is that you can spend millions or years and you are not entitled to fair pay for what you did.

i remember having to sever a connection with one guy he did everything wrong in a jv finally demanded pay he said he worked so hard spent days working but it's not about work it's about results and most of what people do (me included ) doesn't pay, facing the harsh truth will set us free

I've made up my mind. JDArchitecture was right. My niche may be in decline, but it may still be profitable. I did a bit of keyword research on my niche and I got amazing results.

I also checked the keyword "internet marketing" on google trends and the results were even worse than the law of attraction. Yet it's currently a very profitable, lucrative and booming niche.

So I'll just stick with LOA for now. Thanks, everyone!
