Email Marketing - Do you do it and would you?

I am not talking about building a list and using email marketing that way. I am talking about buying NICHED email lists, or extracting niche emails and sending offers that way..

I know this is not acceptable to most "white" hat IMers but it is completely legal, and if you are not spamming people with junk they are not interested in, it works WONDERS.

So do you do it, and would you do it?

If those people you are bulk emailing did not opt-in, then it is spam ("unsolicitated bulk email"). ISP's and webhosts will shut you down if they catch wind of you.

If by "extracting niche emails" you are referring harvesting their email addresses, then you are in violation of CAN-SPAM, and you are committing a felony in the US.

Uhm, you need to read the act again -because I'm certain this does violate the act - which leaves you in a pretty bad position since the fines are PER email violation. If those folks have not opt'd in to receive your message - or have a prior customer relationship directly with you - then you're liable.

This is why most email marketing firms will not allow you to upload a purchased list, without at least re-opting them in.

So, No - I would not do something so illegal, and even if it was legal I wouldn't do it since I personally hate spam.
