IM is not Affiliate marketing

Internet Marketing = The process of communicating via internet, the value of a product or service to customers, for the purpose of selling the product or service.

Affiliate Marketing = A type of performance-based marketing in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought by the affiliate's own marketing efforts.

They ARE the same, or rather, integrated. Not sure where you're taking this. What people DO confuse is that they think the only way to make money in digital marketing is to sell biz opp offers...which is bullshit.

it is different, but many people will only do affiliate marketing as their IM/MMO technique, and that is because they don`t have anything of their own to offer, other than their marketing skills and if you don`t have anything to offer, might as well promote a successful product of someone else.

Amazon is Internet marketing, as is Ebay, as is the tangible product owner who owns an ecommerce store, or a person who owns or vends a digital product as an affiliate.

If a person uses the Internet as a medium for exposure, they are Internet marketing.

"Internet Marketing" is very general and generic term, encompassing a wide variety of business models. The Real Dudeman gave a solid definition of both terms that the OP brought up.

Affiliate marketing is merely a subset of internet marketing; it's a more specific way of marketing products or services using the Internet as a medium. In this case, you're marketing other people's products and services.

Hybrid marketing refers to combining any other forms of marketing and putting them together; a common example is marketers who create their own products, but also market other people's products. We see a lot of this in this forum.

Just like affiliate marketing is a part of internet marketing, or AM is a part of IM. :p

Did you know that a lot of people confuse "allot" with "a lot"? :p

All joking aside... as there are no official dictionary definitions for either "internet marketing" or "affiliate marketing", then one should assume common sense definitions, based on putting the words in each term together. Otherwise, we are just arguing over semantics.

Common sense tells me that...

Internet + marketing = the process of marketing something via the internet.

Affiliate + marketing = the process of marketing something for a commission, or other type of incentive.

Internet marketing might involve affiliate marketing, or it might not. And affiliate marketing might involve marketing on the internet, or it might not.

So even though they are mutually exclusive terms, they may be used to describe the same thing. For example, someone who promotes a ClickBank product as an affiliate, via their website, is both an "affiliate marketer" AND an "internet marketer".

That said, I think that worrying about how other people define these terms is rather pointless. As long as I'm making money doing what I enjoy, you can call me a "capitalist techno-geek marketer" for all I care.

Most of the people int the forum are not internet marketers but people who wants to make money on internet what is quite different. I think that Fran Kern, Eben Pagan, Mike FIlsaime, RIch Schefren are Information Businessmen not marketers.

I agree, while affiliate marketing is a good way to make money online it's not IM as it involves different aspects of making money online. Hell, IM means marketing online.
