So I'm using Wishlist Member/Clickbank BUT how do I stop customers from making multiple accounts?

I successfully set up a wishlist member site that uses clickbank as the payment processor but I ran into one tiny little problem.

After making a test sale I realized that when someone joins clickbank sends them an email with a link saying 'Click here to access your digital product' that links them to the page where they can create an account... which is fine.

EXCEPT that they can go to that link as many times as they want and make as many accounts as they want!!!

Is there some way to prevent this?? Or is it just something that you have to deal with??

Update: I just had a look at another wishlist product and realized they have it set so that you can only create one account so this must be possible.

Any help would be oh so appreciated.

I heard that was a problem a while ago, but was fixed in later updates.
Maybe there is a setting you're overlooking?? I'm interested to here more about this problem because I want to use Wishlist for a new site.

    Thanks,

I've always thought Wishlist was not locked down very well. I remember about 2 weeks ago I was searching for a product and the actual wishlist signup page for that site was ranked in the search engines. I clicked through, created an account, and was given access to the site. That should not be possible. Certainly made me never want to use Wishlist.

I use and recommend Digital Access Pass. It's much better because the account is created automatically after the purchase -- it's NOT created by the user and thus additional accounts cannot be created. This is how things should be done. It's much more secure.

Thanks Will. The reason I wanted to use Wishlist is that it should work with any payment processor, ironically - because of it's lock out feature!

"WishList Member™ also offers SIMPLE integration options that will work with ALL payment providers. However, with SIMPLE integration, if a user cancels payment or doesn’t pay for some reason, the site admin will have to manually cancel the member within WishList Member"

Most of the membership scripts will work with the most popular payment processors -- not just Wishlist.

Thanks. I've carefully chosen a specific payment processor, but no membership script natively supports it.

Without knowing the payment processor I can't help much. But just keep in mind there are certain payment processors (such as Paypal) that people already trust and so by using them you are likely to get more sales.

Ok so it looks like you need to choose "Simple Integration" for registration url protection to work:

"Note: These Registration URLs are best used for Free Membership Levels or to give out free Memberships to trusted people. Anyone using that URL by itself can get a free membership. If you use this URL as part of the Simple Integration you'll be fine and the URL changes when used."

But that's all the info I've found so far. Hopefully it works ok. I'm wanting to buy a multisite licence this week!

Can anyone using Wishlist share some experience with this issue?

    Thanks

I just went and tried a few products I have purchased in the past with JVZoo. I had already created my accounts with those products. I went to JVZoo and clicked on the link to access my purchase and it takes me again to the Wishlist create account page for those sites. I was able to create an additional/different account. Sorry, but that's just not a good member plugin if it allows that. I could easily create accounts for my friends and share them.

Any system that allows the user to create the account manually is always going to be open for abuse.

The setting you want is in 'Settings' > 'Miscellaneous' where you will find "Prevent duplicate shopping cart registrations:"

Its still possible to make extra accounts... but its not quite so obvious as sharing out the link.
