Default What do you think the next big step for IM is?

Hello Warriors,

I was interested in striking up a conversation about the future development of our industry, Internet Marketing.

Over the years, development has done wonders for more exposure and more income, programs, web 2.0, strategies, etc, all add to more growth for our businesses.

Over the past three years, I have seen the following new developments:

- Video Marketing
- Social Bookmarking
- Social Networking
- Blogging

obviously a lot more.

However, the question isn't what has been done, the question is what do you think is in the future?

A few developments I might see happen:

- Adapting more to mobile technology with our marketing
- Shorter Copy (as the world becomes more impatient)
- Interactive Products

What do you think?

I feel like this is a good discussion.

Steve

NYC is my home.

i think this question cannot be answered without taking the evolution of the internet as a whole into consideration.

How will "the internet" look in 5+ years?

My idea is that we will see more centralization - that is, away from MANY, MANY different "social sites" towards a more central point where a internet user can manage his contacts/interests/communication.

Right now, sorry, we have a VERY chaotic infrastructure...similar as if there were 200 different kind of teleophones which are not compatible to each other.

Its a mess of messengers, twitters, digg, bookmarking where i already lost overview MONTHS ago.

Important will also be how google evolves, and whether in 5+ or 10+ years people will STILL enter search terms into a "search engine" - or whether there would be more advanced ways to access the internet, my interests etc....than there is today.

And marketing then will target those whatever changes and adapt.

That's as far as i can tell, without any *exact* idea what we will have in 5+ years.

I already tried the mobile marketing thing, and NOT with SMS's or stuff...just PPC on mobile phones that support it.

I did have some success but its not worth it atm...considering that like 60% or more of iPhone users (witch is the main target for mobile PPC) are basically kids.

I do have a product/service in mind that could revolutionize how we sell/view/buy/learn information products...but by my calculation it would cost 100.000$+ so its a no go atm

"Nothing in this world that's worth having comes easy..."

Taking mobility to the extreme will be the next step.

Check out this awesome video from MIT in TED talks, it is a precurser to how the internet will become even more mobile in the future.
