Benefit of using a mentor

How beneficial can a mentor be? where would be a good place to look for one? how much would it cost for a good mentor? and could a mentor get you making money/in profit fast (1-2 weeks)? and can you get a mentor by which you pay them so much as they get you in profit, like a pay as you earn sort of thing? To make it short I really need a mentor now as I have been in IM now for a year and a half and I have lost a lot of money and i'm currently in a lot of debt now because of it. So I have to make this work and work fast or I am in a lot of trouble. If anyone can help with these questions then I will be grateful.

My good advice to you: find a real job and pay the money back. There is no short way in internet marketing, you have to gather experience before you start seeing money.

I agree, stop buying crap, and get a job and start paying things back. then while you are doing that, come to the warrior forum and read, read, and then go away and implement while you are working. It will be hard to manage all this, but who said this stuff is easy.

  • If a mentor has a decade of experience or more in something that you are pursuing, then he/she would be able to give you quite a bit of valuable information and short cuts to success.

Someone with years of experience will most likely have been through the ups and downs, and will be able to break it down for you in a day, or a week, or a month, so that you don't have to spend an entire decade making all of the common mistakes that you most likely will make.

You mention that "I have been in IM now for a year and a half and I have lost a lot of money and i'm currently in a lot of debt now because of it" and this is something an experienced mentor would have probably been able to help you avoid.

Most mentors (those who are in the business of mentoring) will ask for your money upfront, and not on a pay as you earn basis.

A mentor can be very beneficial because they will help steer you in the right direction. You can find a mentor here on the warrior forum. You can p.m. any warrior that you feel you can learn a lot from. Most people here will be willing to help you. If you need 1 on 1 coaching he/she may be able to make a deal with you based on your situation.

Honestly, most of the information you will get from a mentor is already here on the forum for free. It really comes down to choosing a business model and sticking with it until it becomes profitable.

    Good luck.

I have devoted EVERYTHING in the past year and a half, all my money and I haven't even had a social life so I haven't been looking for a short cut. After giving up so much and working my ass off the past year and a half I don't think I am asking for too much to at least get into profit. Working isn't a option because it's pretty much like me giving up and I am not going to waste 17 months of my life and have nothing to show for it, also the debt goes into 10's of thousands so getting a job is pointless.

What in the world did you spend 10's of thousands on the last 1 1/2 years?

What have you tried to the point of even having no social life (I understand that to mean working very long hours)?

To keep it short I have spent $6k+ on advertising and I have been done over big time by a well known internet marketer (I won't mention his name hear as he has a lot of fan boys that don't like you saying anything bad about him) so pretty much scammed me over $15k.

If you have spent so much money, what did you learn from it? No legitimate coach will make you invest so much without any reason / benefits. In fact when I went for coaching, my mentor was able to turnaround my $2k per month income to $6k per month in 2-3 months and after that i have never looked back, i am full time in online business today

What is it that your currently trying market? A lot depends on your product, and marketing strategy. And chose your mentor wisely. For EX.

Pilot A has been flying for 5 years and Pilot B has been flying for 1 year. Who would you feel more comfortable flying with? Most will say Pilot A (of course)

But what if I told you Pilot A had only logged 100 hours of flight time during those 5 years and pilot B logged over 1,000 hours of flight time in 1 year.

        Did your answer change?

It's not always about how long your mentor has been in the business but about how many hours they've logged.

My breakthrough came when I was able to master Youtube, video marketing and SEO. I wasted years on other advertising methods and now I've launched my own product and consistently generate over 20k in sales volume every month for my one of MLM's.

There are 2 types of mentor programs out there..

1-2-1 skype mentoring of which a legit one will cost you no less than $1,000.. most I have seen are a lot more

Video coaching with access to the mentor by PM or email.. this usually goes for about $300+

Everybody needs a coach no matter how many times you tell yourself you don't.. I had a coach and it changed my life.. Just make sure you get the correct coach.

A mentor will analyze your work and tell you what you need to fix. Internet marketing is huge and it is very easy to get lost. It is true that you can find on this site all the information that a mentor will teach you, the difference is that he knows to sort and put things in the right place. Imagine a puzzle that you have no picture, you can imagine or even guess, the mentor, him, knows. That's the difference.

Regarding prices, they vary so much but there is little down $1K. I've seen asking $50K for coaching! Some mentors will guarantee you success but you have to pay at least $3K.

In my first post on this forum, I explain a bit about how I started, there are some tips that can perhaps help you. If you want to read it, click HERE.

You can also send me a PM if you want to discuss, I will be glad to help you but I don't do mentoring!

  • First and foremost, applaud you for taking action over the last year! Most won't! So it shows that you have the right attitude to make this happen. You just need the proper guidance and to make some re-adjustments.

    1. As others have argued most mentors are going to need to be paid first. Expecting otherwise is like going to college and asking to pay a professor after you find a job because of what they taught you. It's not going to happen. So expect to pay first. The mentor can't guarantee you'll apply what they teach you properly or at all. All they can do is share the information and provide support. Everything else falls on you and they needed to be compensated for their time during that process.

    2. I understand your frustration about not seeing any major results for your efforts, but guess what that's part of building a business. Most businesses aren't even profitable until after their second year. So you're in line with that.

    3. Getting a job doesn't make you a quitter my friend. You're just re-routing so you can pay some bills and get the stress of your debt off your back. There are a lot of folks including myself that built up my business while "doing my time" with the man. It was a necessary evil to pay bills. But it also gives me a lot more freedom to test my marketing efforts properly because my bills weren't dependent on my success with IM. Some people work well under that type of pressure. I don't. Don't let your pride get the better of you! There were a lot of people that had stuff to say about my budding career but I ignored them and kept pushing forward and made adjustments accordingly even if it meant getting a job or doing some other things to bring income in.

You need to do the same. So I would suggest getting the right mentorship or internet marketing courses and also getting a job even if it's part time to address some this debt you collected.

    4. Proceed on your IM efforts a little more strategically and within a budget that you feel comfortable losing. You don't always have to dive in headfirst. You can end up breaking your neck that way if the pool isn't deep enough. Sometimes it's a matter of testing the waters first by dipping your toes in. Then eventually your legs, then you jump in. That's how you should approach it this time around.

Hope this helps and makes sense.

You got tons of awesome advice in here.. but thought I'd chime in.

How beneficial can a mentor be?
Very. I've helped some folks go from being dead broke to making 6 and 7 figures shortly after.. so I'd definitely say it's beneficial

how much would it cost for a good mentor?
If someone is good at what they do, gets results, and values their time.. they are going to ask to be compensated for it.

It depends on the coaching program, value, and time involved.

For real 1 on 1 coaching from a quality person.. expect to pay $2500-$15k+

If it's less. I'd be leary. you get what you pay for.

and could a mentor get you making money/in profit fast (1-2 weeks)?
Way too general of a question. Sure, depending on the methods that the coach is teaching and how fast you take action on it.. There are definitely some guys out there who can help you make money in the first few weeks.

I've helped a few of my students like Vicky make $1700 in the first 7 days..
are those results typcial? no. She was a rare breed and took immediate action on it.

The bigger question is.. are you looking for someone to help ya make a fast buck or are you looking for someone to coach you how to run a REAL business?

And ultimately it comes down to you. a coach can share with you proven stuff that works well.. that if implemented you can get paid quickly with.. but you got to take action on it.

can you get a mentor by which you pay them so much as they get you in profit, like a pay as you earn sort of thing?

No.. no good coach that values his time and takes himself seriously would take you up on this offer.

Having a mentor can actually decrease the time it would take you to be successful.

Of course if you are not committed then nobody can help you.

I have also seen many business owners become successful without ever having a mentor but that's because they are very hard working and committed to make it happen, my father is one of them.

Let me give you an example here of how having a mentor makes a difference:

My brother decided to set up business in the same niche as my father, and so naturally my father offered him advice whenever he needed it.

Result: Within few years my brother started making more than his competitors who have been doing the same thing for nearly a decade (Reason: My dad has 35 years of experience in that business model and so naturally his advice is rock solid).

On the other hand, I decided to become an internet marketer, and since nobody in my close circle actually understood IM, so I had nobody to seek advice from, the result was it took me like 3 years to be successful.

I was manipulated and pretty much brainwashed by a top internet marketer and thats why I didn't chance coarse of what I was doing. I would class this man as the hitler of the IM world. He is a VERY dangerous man and is doing a lot of harm out there (Hint: he recently joined empower network and has a big cult following him!).
I have learned quite a lot over the past year and a half but I can never seem to break through into profit. I have learn't a lot from other IM people out there but I was constantly manipulated by this other guy that I always did what he told me do without ever thinking. I know theres people reading this and going wtf how can you be brainwashed like that but this man is a VERY VERY dangerous man. I need someone to literally give me advice step by step then I believe I could easily be in profit in a month or soo.

Nobody brainwashed you - that's just a nice way of saying that you were stupid enough to believe what he was saying.

You may not like what I'm saying but it's what you need to hear and is what any real coach would tell you. And if you're not ready to hear that, you're not ready for a coach.

Investing in a good mentor will pay off in the long run. The advantage of having a mentor is that they can answer any questions you may have and guide you through the hard times. The mentors will have experienced a lot of failures along the way, and will be able to tell you how to avoid making the same mistakes they did.

Slow down a bit and stop focusing so much on the money... Having a good Mentor is marvelous. However, I don't understand how you spent 18 months losing money and getting into debt and expect a mentor to have you in profits in 14 days!

Come up with a plan to get yourself on track, for example work full time or part time and do IM on the side. You could find a good coach here: Warrior Forum Classified Ads Be sure to do your homework before sign on..

I can share with you my experience so far with mentoring and hopefully it can help you decide.

A few months ago I invested $250 in a personal mentor. That included his business methods and an hour of his time for one on one chat once a week for 6 weeks. I had not researched this guy much but decided to go ahead after reading a few reviews in his thread... But what I got was a waste of time. A dated business plan that didn't work even though I put in all the effort and hours he was telling me to put in... The coaching calls just consisted of the guy repeating what was in the eBooks and encouraging me to push forward with the work. 6 weeks down the line I left with nothing apart from $7.50 commission from a CPA offer... This was with spending 3-4 hours a day working. So Lesson learned here is you can't get good coaching cheap.

Recently after some success I had making money from a couple ideas I got fomr WSO's I have decided to invest in some one who has a track record with students... And already seeing big things in the horizon. This is the push I need to enter the next level and start generating a decent recurring income online. The main thing is finding some one who can use your skills and mould you into a success by giving you a decent plan to stick to and being there for you to answer your questions and guide you forward. A good coach is one who prides themselves in making their students successful so that they can use them as case studies to advance to the next level in coaching.

There are many up and coming coaches on the WF but they are not cheap if you want some one who will give you what you need to actually spread your wings and fly on your own once they are done with you. But on the other hand what I once would have thought of as expensive now seems like a bargain as you get a clear path to success rather than having to guess on your own and waste money in the process. Expect to pay upwards of $300 a month for a decent beginners coach.

Yes a GOOD mentor can help, they come at a cost, the time that you profit depends on your actions, knowledge, and possibly even resources. I always say the internet is not a winning lotto ticket, it takes work, and determination to build a business. I would like to know what you have been doing over the year and a half, and I'll share my mentor through PM because I don't feel I'm at the coaching level yet.

Most small businesses have false starts and fail. Don't be frustrated from your experience. Mentioned in other threads that the SBA offers free consultation through their retired executive program known as SCORE. Not sure if your local chapter has someone with internet marketing experience, but would rest assured there is someone with general marketing experience. Surely, there is information that crosses over. Anyway, its free mentor-ship with people that have business experience. It may be worth investigating.

To my opinion mentors that teach you marketing in private or in groups are not worth your time and money. They actually sell their time charging per hour, do they do what they teach you themselves? Do they have big mailing lists, highly ranked and trafficked blogs, huge social media following, best seller ebooks, etc themselves? If they do, why do they end up selling their time? Can't they monetize it all? Why do they bother charging $X per hour if they could make hundreds of thousands per month?

Nobody's gonna teach you for free until you make bank. Why would they spend their time with you instead of making this bank themselves if they could?

However, there are internet marketing video courses sold online. The authors release their products and sell them to unlimited people. They can get unlimited money for years from the same small valuable course. They can make loads and loads of cash over and over again off an hour spent for product creation. More trust?

I know there are lots of scams out there but there are also leaders known to play fair with almost immaculate reputations. You still can find honest reviews of their products besides affiliates, you can also get your money back safely if you don't like your purchase.

In your situation you'd better decide and concentrate on a particular way of earning money online instead of learning everything about internet marketing. For example how to write and successfully sell ebooks on Kindle or how to sell stuff on eBay or how to resell products online easy for a quick buck. This is your shortcut. Don't go for blogging, social media, video marketing, etc and etc. It doesn't have to take ages to learn and practice. It could be enough to find out and buy an inexpensive high quality Kindle publishing ebook or course from a reputable author whom you thoroughly research.

    My 2 cents

Good luck getting out of debts and becoming a successful online marketer.

I am a coach/consultant myself. I save people years of their lives by working with me. I also have had a coach for 2 years now. I out grew one and then the next one I also out grew. The one I have now will take a little while to out grow.

I am in top 1% in my field and I get a coach because as great as I am at self awareness I have to be VERY AWARE of self in my business as well as in my coaching. I get cool exercises and insights into myself I would miss.

I coach people because I change their lives, I have saved marriages, I have helped people make significant income well into 6 figures residually and doubled and tripled people's incomes. Nothing is of greater importance to me than hearing how I impacted a family directly. They did the work and I guided them to where they wanted to be.

I have done it for free and never has it worked well. And to top it at the end there is usually a resentment or they are a user. Coaching gives me the opportunity to give of myself to others. It gives me the opportunity to make a significant long term donation to my community and my world.

Its always about the money. I lose money if you were to look at the fees I charge comparing it what I do during the day. So why do I do coaching. Because although I love money its not my master and I love the results I can have and do produce in people's lives.

Coaching or mentoring though, is like a refrigerator, you get out of it what you put into it!

I loved my first coach at $100ish an hour was the best money I ever spent. To spend $2,000 a month or $3,000 a month isn't expensive when you take into consideration the long term results and rewards that you can have. Even if the amount of money earned immediately isn't that long term a $24,000 or $36,000 investment in yourself could pay you millions in a lifetime.

Dramatic change is great we all want to wake up tomorrow a new and better you. Truth though is the gradual and minor shifts in belief, perception and actions might take months some even years to materialize. Sure I can deliver immediate results and have. Some of the changes are just planting the seeds and watching with time that person grow and impact the world in a much bigger way.

The longer I do coaching I realize it is not time, however it is space that is the real difference. Why do some take 1 week and others 1 year. Is it the coaches fault or the person's. Truth is sometimes its neither. No one wants to hear that though.

If they have something that works the coach should (in my belief) go out of his/her way to deliver it a way that will be most beneficial to that person. One size fits all coaching rarely works has been my experience and would be weary or cautious to this approach.

A result takes a certain amount of steps to accomplish however for some the process needs to be altered or framed differently for different people to get it the fastest way. Im great at this and sometimes I miss it for a session or two. Coaches even well versed oiled machines that some can and do achieve can still miss every once in a while. We are people. However like anything with time and Practice you can really tweak it so you make less and less errors.
