Marketing a friends freelance service worth your time?

I wanted to know if you market a friends service or stick to marketing your own? I feel that even if you recommend your friends freelance service without referrals it's still ethical to do so. I like to spread the word about people who do well at their craft. What do you guys believe?

If you have a friend who provides a service that you don't and they are good at it - I don't even see where the question comes in. Unless you mean, should you spend time, money, and/or effort to promote them actively versus just mentioning them whenever an appropriate moment comes up?

I would go for the second option unless your friend has asked for help, and you have the time to do it.

I would say, absolutely feel free to promote your friend's freelance service. I would assume that your friend is not in direct competition with you..

Also, I would hope that your friend would return the favor and promote you to his/her contacts as well...

If necessary, get together and have a chat about the above, and how your friend would like to be promoted (and to whom), and vice versa.
