Membership Site Stats

Hi, I recently launched a membership site for musicians with monthly interviews, lessons, EBooks and a few other features. I'm offering the first month for $1, then $27/month after that.

Aside from finding it difficult to get people to sign up in the first place, it's tough getting people to stay on board past the $1 first month. In my initial run, I'd say I've only seen about 30% of the subscribers stay on board past the first month.

What kind of stats are typical for this type of product/promotion? What percentage of ppl typically stay on board past the first month for a successful membership site? What's a good conversation rate for a sales letter for this type of product?

Thanks in advance!

You know your in a niche all to your own. Saying that most here do not know musician membership stats.
In Internet marketing if it is a well laid out site with great content. about 40 to 60 percent retention with the average person staying 3.5 months.
I think your niche would yield different results though.

I promoted products in the music niche years ago and had my own membership site. I also found them a hard market to sell to. There's just so many free youtube video lessons nowadays. You have to give them a really good reason to stick on.

In terms of increasing the retention rate of any membership site, you want to give them specific reasons to continue. Near the end of month 1 you want to tell them about something you are releasing to them in month 2, and so on.

If it's all just the same content then people will join, download everything and cancel. I'll admit I've done that same thing with many membership sites over the years. So unless there is a really good reason for people to stick around, they won't.

Just ideas - take 'em or leave 'em.

Free membership level with those free level goodies. Then where they gonna go, huh? And since there's nowhere to go, they stay on your member only super elite email list....which gentle teases and taunts the more gooder stuff in the Silver level $17/mo. Of course there are also the obvious appearances by the most goodest things that are being enjoyed by only the Gold $27/level VIPs who have access to that secret area behind those huge doors.

    or

Free level stuff with free level goodies on that same elite list. Then they can buy the more gooder and most goodest stuff at full price....UNLESS they are silver level members, they get 20% off. Or those Gold level lucky ducks that get access to that secret area AND 50% off everything those free loaders pay full price for. HA! Sucks to be them.

But then if they don't want to pay for the upgraded levels (anymore), they can just drop back down to the free level where they are....gently teased and taunted with...etc. etc.

Just some drizzle for your brainstorm.
