Getting Hard to Stay Positive

Hi Fellow Warriors:

Since joining Warrior Forum, I come here often to read and read and read, and I must say I have learned a lot from you guys since joining. I am not one to comment or offer advice, I'm a kind of a hang in the background sort of person. But I am really finding it hard lately to stay positive (and I am quite a positive person) lately regarding my affiliate marketing business.

I have a total of 13 websites, 8 of which I built using the Covert Store Builder and I bought the upsell for the content builder. For the month of August I made a whopping $17.00 with 236 clicks. According to my Google Analytics I had close to 6,000 hits for all 8 sites total. But the problem with Covert Store Builder is that you cannot narrow it down to a subniche, unless I am missing something about how to choose amazon products.

My other 5 sites I had built by some warriors. One of them is on the first page of google in the number one spot and has been for a year but no sales from it. I am actually thinking about selling that one but because I have not made any sales, I do not know if it would sell or not.

I do paid advertising and I use a lot of suggestions that you guys make regarding paid advertising. Last month I made a total of $86.00, hmmm, I am thinking about buying a yacht.

I have had a lot of jobs in my life, 8 years in the military, 10 years at a lawfirm, raised two boys, etc, and I have never failed at anything in my life and I'll be damned if I am going to let this get the best of me. Not to mention I love what I am doing even if it is so f*****g frustrating. Not to mention there is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much to learn.

So if anyone has any great words of wisdom, or some wonderful advice, well I am open to suggestions.

Thanks for letting me vent

Mary Jean

Years ago I struggled a lot, while searching for good products to promote. Tried so many things without success and kinda lost motivation. However I never gave up and tried to think about my money as invested! This is really important if you want to remain confident in your abilities.
I was sure that I can do it, but had to find good products!
I found that I am good at online lead generation and since then I am making my income from doing this only. Keep it simple and stick to financial products. Everything pays off!

Don't lose your faith and keep trying!
Any questions, just let me know!

Are you trying to sell your own product? or affiliate products? Whatever you are trying to sell, you should build a list for boost your sell. 90% of your potential customers will never buy from your website at the first glance.

Yes it can be very difficult especially when you feel like you should be successful but you are not for whatever reason getting the results you want. I think we have to remember that it is a process and it will happen in time when we have done the training and actually believe in that which we are doing and in our abilities.

    Mary Jean,

You've got a #1 ranked site on Google now for about a year, yes? If so, it will most likely be able to yield you some money by selling it.

Before you sell it though, do some research. Try to pinpoint what factors were behind that site's top ranking. Look at all of the factors behind it. Once you have a good idea then start to focus on other sites following the same formula.

You will have to do some detective work as MANY factors could be the catalysts for the ranking. You will learn so much along the way and the reward will be you own blueprint to build up an array of sites that you can earn or flip.

To much spred out to not get 100% attention on just one thing to be a success!

    A jack of all trades?

What keywords do the number 1 site in Google actually for?
Are they used by people who buy? Put them in ebay or amazon
To little value on the site?

    I don't know ...

On the first page of Google for a year and you made no sales? Honey, you're going down and your dragging the rest of us with you!

    No, joking.

Maybe you got a bit lazy, it all goes down to traffic and quality. 6,000 hits is not bad, so you have got a bit of traffic. So, I'd suggest focus on the quality of the product your offering, image is everything, so I'd think twice about my salespage if I were you.

Do you know your marketplace? carried out a proper research maybe? It's critical to know the core desire of the marketplace and what to offer them.

It's always a good idea to put yourself in your customers' shoes' every now and then. See how THEY see it. Think of why they would purchase your product or the reasons that prevents them from doing so.

This is from the top of my head honestly, don't give up. We ALL struggle in the beginning that's life.

No Pain No Gain, am I right? If it was easy, EVERYONE would be rich. The more you struggle, the more you'd appreciate your success once you get there. And you will get there, soon enough. I hope so you do, for the sake of all the other struggling IMs.

Correct me if I am wrong.

I don't know exactly what your doing with your sites. But, what you should be doing is following a proven plan that has worked for others in the past.

You have a site that is ranked #1 in google with no sales, so this probably means your traffic is not targeted at all.

You have to find a way to get visitors to your site who are looking for exactly what your offering, not just any traffic that may be kind of into what your offering.

Scrap all 8 sites and work on one site until it starts working and then replicate what you did.

Why on earth are you holding onto 8 bloody websites that don't make you Jack?

80% of your results will come from 20% of your actions.

The Pareto principle plays a massive role in the outcomes of any, and every damn business that exists today. Actually, it obviously goes a lot deeper than that.

Trim the fat. Ditch what's not working. Narrow your focus. Work smart.

Focusing on 8 websites that are not making you a dime, is... well... pretty stupid. And I'm guessing you're not a stupid person. So what's wrong with this picture mate?

You don't need any more strategies.

You don't need these people to tell you what could work, or what you should change. You're online long enough now. You're working hard. Not smart. Success has everything to do with mindset.

The skills and strategies are already in place. You can take any number of strategies that have been proven to work, and use them. But you're still trying to flog a dead horse. Drop the websites.

Trim the fat. Ditch what's not working. Narrow your focus. Work smart.

Take your eye off what's not working, and laser in on what is. If nothing you're doing right now is working. Then ditch the whole damn lot and pick another strategy instead.

People can spend years trying to make something work, that just hasn't got a chance. Take your number 1 ranked website for example. You can't make money from 8 websites, and yet you hold the top spot in the serps for your chosen keyword? What's wrong with this picture?

Seems to me that you're holding onto something that is clearly worthless. If it was a rich keyword, then I'm sure you would have made money from it, or another experienced marketer would have claimed your number 1 ranking...

...and if you can't see that my friend, then it's clear you have an issue with focus and clarity.

    Start there.

I wish you all the success in the world, but wishing doesn't feed the kids.

    All the best.

"Most people have attained their greatest success just one step beyond their greatest failure"

"No one ever achieved worth-while success who did not, at one time or another, find themselves with at least one foot hanging well over the brink of failure"

"Opportunity often comes disguised in the form of misfortune, or temporary defeat"

"The majority of people meet with failure because of their lack of persistence in creating new plans to take the place of those which fail"

"When defeat comes, accept it as a signal that your plans are not sound, rebuild those plans, and set sail once more toward your coveted goal"

      Mary Jean,

I think that what you are running into is related at least in part to two things:

      1. Much of what you read here is written by people who have not been successful themselves, and therefore are not qualified to give advice.

      2. Much of what you read here does not actually work.

At least 90% of the recommendations you will come across have no possible way of succeeding. They will not work. They do not work. They never have worked.

Some of them are not designed to make money for you, but to generate income or referrals for the person making the recommendation.

This is an "internet marketing" forum. And yet post after post after idea after scheme after diabolically twisted, senseless, purposeless connivance is just some nonsense completely divorced from marketing.

The American Marketing Association defines marketing as the "activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large."

The key is providing value. If you promote something of value, and if you can get the word out in adequate volume, and then exchange your product for something of value, then you are marketing and you have a chance for success.

You might have more success if you were to simply obtain a real product and put up a real web site and offer it for sale.

As an example, a friend of mine did that with several foot detoxification devices. He located distributors from which to obtain products he could sell, put up a web site, described the devices on the site and listed a price. And right away he got some sales. Now, that is marketing.

I find all too often people start down this path without understanding the fundamentals and then wonder why it's not working. Here's a simple example "I have a #1 ranked site on Google", utterly meaningless, the question is "what is it ranked for? How many people are searching for it? What is their intention when they are searching for it? Is that intention to buy?"

Focus on the fundamentals and forget the rest. Here are the fundamentals you need to be concerned about:

    1. Am I selling a product that's really compelling? (By this I do mean REALLY compelling, in other words don't sell a car, sell the most attractive car (attractive in overall value not necessarily expense or performance, a few years ago that was Toyota and not Ford as a simple example, if you were selling Fords you were fighting the tide because relatively speaking the product sucked), if you're selling books sell the absolute best books on the subject not just any books. I see far too many people who think they can avoid being an expert in their subject matter and do fine but you'll find it's never true at a high level).

Once you are sure you're selling an outstanding product (ideally the best within its field) you can consider related point #2

    2. Can you get great margins off the product (again I'm not talking good margins, I'm talking fantastic margins and this needs to take into account both the customer acquisition cost and the margins on the actual sale. Generally, gaining these margins requires being in a low competition niche, the corollary of which is differentiating)

    3. Get in front of LOTS of the target market (target market are the people who you don't have to work hard to convince to buy your product/service, they already know they want it and are interested in it and can afford it and will appreciate the offer...you want to get in front of LOTS of those people, 1 million visitors might not be as good as a single highly targeted visitor)

    4. Nurture them - this means build a list, treat them well, build credibility with them, and have a ton of other stuff that they want to sell to them. The first thing you sold them wasn't designed to make you any money, it was designed to get them to this point where you could nurture them, build that relationship and grow them as a client.

It doesn't matter what your Google rank, or your traffic source, or your site builder, etc. is if you aren't nailing those 4 and if you are nailing those 4 either the rest won't matter much or will take care of themselves, that is until you start to encounter the challenges with growth, which is an entirely different conversation for a later date.

Staying positive is great, but positivity is a lot easier in the face of success and there's a lot to be said for realistic assessment of what's going on. Hope that helps.

Stay away from solutions in a box in the future. You are highly unlikely to find success by installing something and sitting back while it does its thing.
