products not converting?

hey guys, so i launched a few sales pages on products about 4 weeks ago, and within that a week and some i received about 500 views. i noticed that out of the 500 views that about 350 were unique visitors only 16 had decided to click thru to the vendor page. i decided that it might be a traffic problem and not everybody is going to buy on the first shot so i decided to try and drive as much possible traffic as i could using youtube, vimeo, facebook, twitter etc and still noticed only a slight click through rate. i thought it might have been the product i was promoting and might have just chosen a black sheep out of the bunch to promote.

then i was given a tip that it might not be a traffic problem and my sales page copy might have something to do with it. i tweaked my copy and within a few days i recieved a couple of sales. so to keep this post really short, because alot of people hate reading, this is to newbies out there just starting out, you need to tweak and test and take action! do not expect results to just come by setting up a landing page and think that sales conversions are going to happen instantly! even if it does, there is always room for improvement.

and for veterans out there; how long do you often wait before tweaking or changing it up if you not notice sales conversions?

This is the first thing that you should look at: Get a copy of the product and make sure it is a good product.

There are "products" out there that would never convert as they are just plain crap.

If a product doesn't sell, it does not necessarily means that the product is a crap but some times when you target the wrong people you can not make any sale with it. You should see if others are getting sales of that product.

I don't quite understand what you're asking, here (my fault, not yours!).

You talk about people "clicking through to the vendor page", so I think you must be an affiliate, yourself, not a vendor?

But if you're an affiliate, I don't understand what you're doing having sales pages at all. I'm a full-time affiliate marketer and I don't need any "sales pages". That's for the vendor to have - not for affiliates. The affiliates' job is to generate the traffic, pre-sell (not "sell"!!), and direct their traffic to the vendor's sales page.

I may have totally misunderstood what you're asking here (in which case apologies! ), but the reason I'm asking for clarification is that I know that "affiliates trying to sell, by having their own sales pages, from which they send their traffic to the vendor's own sales page as well" is a hugely common cause of not making any sales: it's one of the commonest mistakes that affiliate marketers can make, and it's pretty much a sure-fire recipe for almost no sales at all. So I'm "just asking", to check that that isn't what you're doing - because if by any chance it is, then it's almost certainly at least part of the cause of the problem, here.

So ... are you an affiliate or a vendor? If you're an affiliate, why are you using your own "sales pages" at all? Do you have a subscriber-list? Tell us a little more, please ...

alexa, terribly sorry for the confusion, i kind of rushed out this post and was just typing that i was thinking, trying not to lose my train of thought. i meant my pre sell page. not sales page. i am indeed an affiliate marketer, not yet a vendor. still working on it.

The biggest challenge that everyone on this forum has is:

Getting YOUR prospects to clearly see YOUR unique value.

Every single day, product creators die a little bit - when their solution is rejected (i.e. conversions are in the toilet.)

    The thing is...

It isn't their product that's being rejected; it's the copy.

So your question, "How long do you wait before tweaking your copy?" (I'm paraphrasing...)

Well, you need to make sure that:

    A) The traffic is extremely targeted.

    B) The copy is talking ONLY to your targeted traffic.

    C) Your value is coming through crystal clear (i.e. you have a strong USP - chock full of emotionally-driven benefits.)

    D) You have a powerful offer & CTA.

If any of those are off (especially your hook,) you have a lot of "tweaking" to do.

But assuming you're close, make small changes - so you know exactly what's making the difference in your conversions. Don't just do a massive rewrite. Although, feel free to create 3 different squeeze pages and test them against each other.

    Also...

Make sure your tonality primes prospects for the vendor's sales pitch. If your copy has too much contrast (compared to the pitch page,) you won't see the kind of conversions you're after.
