Want to sell my site, but what is it worth?

Hi,

I want to sell my website, since I don´t got time to work on it any longer. It was meant to be an authority site one day. But I am unsure what it is worth.

About the site:
- health niche
- brandable domain
- 1k quality backlinks all pr3+
- several tier 1 web 2.0 propertys with quality/readable content (about 10 in total)
- 50 unique quality articles
- 1 month old

The Site hasn´t made any money yet, since it was never monetized in any way (just recently started it). Site has 200 unique daily visitors right now, however no social media profile building has been done and most backlinks are to the main page not the actual articles so increasing visitors shouldn´t be a problem at all.

So what do you think the site is worth?

Hold it until you generate some income.
In the mean time, go to Flippa and look for sites like
    yours and evaluate selling prices.

You need to evalute it on Flippa but speaking of that, is their valuation fair? They ask you to make an estimation of your monthly revenue or unique visitors, what if our numbers aren't fair or right?

The Flippa valuation tool isn't meant to give an exact valuation. It gives an approximate range, which gets more accurate if you provide actual revenue and traffic details.

The best way to evaluate a site is to look at how much similar sites are selling for. What you're describing isn't the type of site that would sell for more than $100 to $200. Do you need to sell it right away? Why not hold on to it, perhaps grow it a bit more, generate some ad revenue, and post it for sale later?

As it's only a month old, not much. There's no way to value something with no age, income or sustainable traffic - but it's likely you would get $100-200 on Flippa. It's far too small for brokers but would also be suitable on some other marketplaces out there like DigitalPoint (which is free to list).

$200 at the very most - get a few months income under your belt then you can get 10-12 times the monthly net.

Don't want to be harsh, but...

As an much more experienced buyer than average Joe, I would skip that offer pretty fast. In fact, I wouldn't pay more than $100 for that.

The only thing that RIGHT now matters is that your site is PR3 and gets some amount of traffic.

However, I'm a bit confused. You mentioned that your site is 1 month old. How come does it have PR3 then? Did you bought expired domain since there hasn't been a PR update since Jan 2013.

1k quality backlinks during 1 month? Let me laugh, they ain't quality... They are most likely made through auto softwares like magic submitter, senukex and other similar fiverr "crap".

I'm not going to predict a long journey for your site in Google, but it might do well in Bing/Yahoo.

    Hope that helps.

the backlinks are pr3+, not the site... however it is easy to make any site pr3+ in a single day with some magic so this usually shouldn´t influance your buying decissions.

See the post bleow for backlinking explanation, don´t mean to be harsh, too. But it seems like you have no idea...

OK, I know that magic as well... but bro... in the long run, this magic is totally useless

I would suggest monetize, let it generate some income. Here is the formula how you should price your website:

Money it generate every month multiplied by at least 6.

  • Yeah, sites without income generally don't sell for very much, if at all. Also, people tend to like the older, more established sites, so 1 month isn't much. I agree with online only, there are too many backlinks? How did you manage to get 1k in only a month? That's about 33 a day! Quality backlinks take time.

If you know seo really well (like I do; hidden brag) 33 quality backlinks a day are a total joke. I could easyily do 100 times the amount all diversified, different and aged properties, edu/gov links and the best part all panda and penguin safe. However doing this to a very new site wouldn´t be wise even through it can be done in a safe fashion with little risk involved...

To give an example 33 quality backlinks could easily be 10 web 2.0 sites, 10 high PR do-follow forum posts and 10 blog comments. This is just an example don´t use this exact pattern, because it is not diversified enough. If you have connections to blog and regular site owners it becomes even easier.

More Questions? I am happy to anwser everything regarding SEO.

It's only a month old and has low traffic and no revenue, so I wouldn't expect more than a couple of hundred at most minus the Flippa listing fees if you go with Flippa.

I guess if you want to sell it now, people might need more information about your site, such as the appearance(paid theme? paid plugins?), or content quality (which you didn't mention how many article are unique), and the keyword you targeted...............

So what do you think the site is worth?

Actually, I've sold several sites like this for anywhere from $200-$2300.00. It all depends on how you present the site. The fact that you have 50 unique articles that are quality content and a brandable domain name is excellent. Different people will see value in different things.

For example, the articles alone could have significant value, depending on the quality and word count. Most people would pay $10.00 on up for a 500-1000 word article. That would make the articles alone worth $500.00!

On the other hand, some people may only be interested in the domain. You just never know.

Explain in your description (I call it your "sales copy area") why you're selling. A lot of people are suspicious, and rightfully so. Just be honest. It makes you look more like a real human being by sharing things that others can relate to.

Next, explain that the domain is brandable and tell people what you've done so far to build that brand. That's as simple as sharing how you got your traffic, built up your social media sites, etc. Make sure you explain that ALL of those things are included in the auction!

Do you have a Facebook fan page? If not, you can get one done for $5.00 at Fiverr.com. You can also get a Twitter page, professional looking header for the blog and more all for $5.00. Any or all of those things can raise the perceived value of your auction. If you're using a free Wordpress template simply adding a unique header image would allow you to say that the template is unique too, right?

Important: Always supply your own image for headers and banners you have made so you know where they came from. You don't want someone to violate copyright by stealing someone else work.

Next, explain exactly what you'd do if you were going to keep the site. Give people an idea of what they'll need to do in order to build on the foundation you've built. Explain that the steps you're taking are obviously proven (because of your current traffic) AND that they'd work with most other sites as well.

Share your traffic stats. Google Analytics is best, but at least share your Awstats so you can back up your claims. Personally, I'd make a short video for this. Screenshots aren't as trustworthy.

Tell people what you'd recommend for affiliate programs. List 5-7 programs and explain the benefits of each one. This is another important piece of the roadmap.

Offer bonuses! I always offer at least three. These can be Wordpress plugins or a premium template that you have developer's rights to (if the site is built on it), additional unique articles, PLR articles, "done for you" keyword research, related unique or PLR reports that you have rights to for list building, free hosting for 30 days, free ongoing support for 90 days by email or Skype, etc, etc, etc. You can also offer other "dormant" sites or domains that you haven't been able to make profitable, haven't gotten around to using or have tried to auction before but they wouldn't sell as a stand alone offer. I've gotten rid of several dud sites and unused domains this way. Rather than just letting them expire, use them as a bonus!

I could go on and on, but I don't want a flood of new auctions showing up using my methods. My point is that if you're trying to SELL something, SELL it!

You need to list every benefit you can think of in your description. Break them up into short paragraphs where they're very clear and easy to read, just like a sales letter. Use sub-heads.

Finally, don't listen to the the naysayers. Just because some people wouldn't buy it doesn't mean that someONE else won't. You only need ONE person. Let the market decide.

    Good luck!

I wouldn't likely ever spend too much money on a website that was only a month old. If I was to ever buy a website on Flippa again I would want it to be at least a year or two old.
