Hello Warriors,

For those of you that have an email list, what is your cost per subscriber? I started building a list not too long ago and am still in the testing phase. I am using PPC to build my list and my current cost is roughly $3.00/subscriber. I realize that is very high, however, I am still testing keywords. I have around 745 keywords that I am testing. Currently only about 25 of them are converting. My cost/subscriber should go down drastically once I remove the non converting keywords. Can you share what your cost/subscriber is after optimizing keywords?

  • So far about $.00 per subscriber. I haven't paid anything. I get traffic from content marketing, social media and word of mouth.

My list is still pretty new though.

      Hmmm. It's hard to say.

I too, like Michael, build my list mostly with content, but a lot of that content these days is on my own websites and blogs. So I'm paying for hosting and domains, and put in some work, but it's hard to figure out how much that comes to in terms of cost per subscriber.

It's definitely less than $3 per subscriber though - way less!

0 $ for me too but I think there is no cost unless you have thousands and thousands of subscribers but I may be wrong.

What is cost per subscriber? Is it the total cost to run your website/blog divided by the number of subscribers you have? Or is it just the cost of your list building program (i.e. Aweber) divided by the number of subscribers you have? Know that Aweber costs 20 dollars per month.

The cost per user depends on the niche and market you are in. If you are already doing some promotions through ppc marketing and Google, I recommend you also take a look at Facebook Ads. You can create fan pages and add a subscribe form to your page. Again, depending on what demographics you are targeting, you can probably get your email subscriber cost well under a dollar each through Facebook.

I am getting about one subscriber for each 4-5 clicks. I believe that isn't a great conversion rate. I pay .25 cent or so per click so it looks like my average cost is between $1 and $1.25 per subscriber.

However, in some cases, I have an offer on my thank you page that is picked up often enough to pay for the advertizing.

I also keep reminding myself that the cost of not building the list is never reaching financial independence. It is that important.

Most I ever paid was a dollar for an Aweber month trial. I get all my subscribers 100% free. I usually get 20 high quality subscribers per day from free methods.

I am currently building my list with forum posting, YouTube and social media.

Its kinda hard to be specific on this since there are so many factors that come into play.

But for an example: I started promoting a company that offers recurring commissions and my cost was about $75 per subscriber even though I only got $25 for commission.

That being said I would need each subscriber to continue to pay for 3 months before I broke even but the other 9 months are profit. So this means each person in my list is equivalent to $225 per year.
