Amazon India Associates Program

Just seen that last month Amazon launched its Amazon Associates (affiliate) program at its Indian store (Amazon.in). The information I have seen suggests that only Indian bloggers and website owners can join, however. Does anyone know if this is the case? Potentially this could be another income stream for those of us who already promote to other Amazon national stores, so I'm obviously hoping you don't have to be Indian yourself to join the Indian program!

Unfortunately, I don't know if that's the case. But, given the exchange rate, wouldn't you have to sell an awful lot of products to make and money to speak of? Or am I overlooking something?

Fair comment. But then again, India has a huge population and is one of the world's fastest growing economies. And English is also the main language spoken. I foresee increasing opportunities for marketers to make money there in the coming months and years.

Interesting post. Amazon products from the US would be a lot more expensive for Indian customers, so I would think that Amazon India would probably be geared towards Indian products already sold in India. It might include American products. Why would Amazon create an product line just for India if they could just use the affiliate program already in place?

Wonder if there is an affiliate program specifically designed for Chinese customers? Just like India, China represents a huge market with a growing middle class looking to purchase all kinds of products. But the exchange rate is 1 USD to 6.2 RMB, so American products would be so much more expensive than Chinese products.

While I don't think as many Chinese know English like Indians know English, there probably is a small pocket of buyers that they could sell products to, especially in places like Hong Kong or to university students looking to improve their English in China.

      Hi Skywriter,

Being an Indian affiliate marketer, I think I can help you out with this one.

      Pros:

      1) Like you said, huge population so huge potential
      2) Not much affiliate competition so if you get in early and are willing to wait long term, Amazon India could be a goldmine
      3) People already trust Amazon in India as it's a Global brand. We Indians have a keen fascination with anything Western!

      Cons:

      1) It's just started off and as of now is present in only 4-5 categories. But Amazon India is adding new categories every month
      2) You earn in Indian rupees so for US folks, the commissions would turn out to be petty change
      3) As of now, Amazon India operates as a marketplace and doesn't sell goods on its own (due to Indian FDI regulations). So the "Amazon experience" is not entirely there.
      4) It's not a short term revenue source. Be prepared to wait at least 1-2 years for earning big commissions.

      Hope this helped
