Toss me a bone ( Newbie Advice)

Hello everyone, It's pretty well known that the economy is bad. I've been searching for a summer job for the past 3 months but to no avail. I am still studying in school currently, but it seems that I will most likely be jobless this summer due to the competitive field I am majoring in.

It has always crossed my mind that making money online is a possible option but I was hesitant because I heard many horror stories about it, and how scams and lies run rampart. So I put on my wizard hat and robe to brave the terrors that is the online marketing.

What I am greeted with is "completely absolute information overload". With 8 out of 10 websites telling me it will make me rich. Being the skeptic that I am I did not buy into anyone of them ( Besides I am really kinda broke now) , I did more research and found this website. But again I am greeted with information over load.

So the to the real topic. Could any kind veterans be generous enough to throw me a bone and direct me a to website with solid information without trying to pitch me something? Or just tell me where I should start taking my first step.

But please, I am not trying to be a cheap skate here. It's just that I really don't have any money to throw around.

Thanks in advance for any one contributing to this thread.

I wish I had read Paul Myers' free "Need To Know" manual when I started in this business.

It's one of the best e-books I've ever read, and it's free:

I'm as new as you and I must tell you information overload will be your end...
I wasted so much time just jumping between courses and ebooks I couldn't even remember what I'm reading.

Now I'm just focusing on one site and hopefully it will succeed one day...

Just a few minutes ago I somehow got to Paul Myers' site and I read in this forum that he is one of the best out there, so I'll be reading his free ebook with you

    good luck

I fount this site to be really good - http://nichemarketninja.com

Check out the videos and then ask for full access. I'm not sure if he is still doing the full access for free but even the free videos in his posts should be enough to get you pointed in the right direction.

Sully, thanks for directing us to Paul Myers. I downloaded the book and am looking forward to reading it.

Yaotfeng, as with anything, building a business online comes with a learning curve. That is part of the information overload.

Also contributing, if you let it, would be endlessly jumping from topic to topic to topic and never settling on one thing to focus in on and pursue. MunkMurry has an excellent point about picking one site and working only on it.

As one of my mentors says, "Stop chasing shiny new objects!" This is the statement that finally got through to me. I chased topic after topic for years and never executed completely on just one.

Since you are looking to only focus on this during the summer, I recommend using the field you are majoring in at school as your business focus (because you are already an expert* in it). Find ways to build around that. Just to jumpstart your thinking about it: What are the top 20 things people want to know about your field of expertise or what are 12 things you can teach them to do or which 15 facts do most people not know about it but would be glad to find out?

*I believe everybody is an expert at something because an expert is only someone who knows more about something than you do (how much more doesn't really matter in most situations).

The other thing to do, if you truly need cash, is not to be afraid to take some other kind of job on a temporary basis. Sometimes that's just what we need to do to make it through to the next stage of life.

Paul Myer's newsletter is one of the very few that I look forward to reading on a regular basis. His easy-to-read writing style, marketing nous, originality and grasp of human psychology, make even his advertisements an intriguing read.

And, no, I am NOT related to him in any way!

That some very sound advice fripmix if I've ever heard of any. I am just starting to get the buzz of ideas. But still a bit lost as to what I am "able" to do at the moment.

The market is so vast, it's literally like trying to find a needle in the ocean for me right now.

I am still trying to figure out my options and still trying to look for a job to tie me over in the mean time. Still trying to digest Paul Myer's book as I type this.

Keep the good advice coming guys.

I could give you one main pointer for you to rely on and that is FOCUS. Don't try to read your mail while reading a e-book - don't post posts on forums while researching. Turn off your MSN and all other chat programs. Close down that facebook window because those people will still be available after you read the book. Distraction is very common in IM so focus on something and try to make the best from it then you will be one step closer to actually know where to start.

Use the search option in WF to find your questions already answered ages ago.

You have the attitude, passion and all you need right now is knowledge to get the clear picture of what you can do to make money online

It depends on what do YOU want to do:

    adsense
    affiliates
    bum marketing
    own product
    and the list goes on...

You need to decide WHAT do you want to do, and then stick to the plan. This is the best advice i can give you: always stick to the plan, don't jump around.

Decide how much do you want to make per day,
how to achieve it, with what process, and stick with it.

Example: i want to make 1K per month with affiliates, selling products in my site (affiliates, Clickbank). So 1000$ divided per 30 days = 33.3$ per day.

This equals to 1 sale of 35$ per day.

I need 1000 visitors per day = 100 hops per day = 1 sale per day.

This is the method i've been using lately and frankly, its a hell of a more easier to achieve my goals. I know exactly what i have to do to get my 33.3$ per day.

    Best wishes,
    Fernando

P.S. - Definitely grab Paul Myers eBook. A must read every month
