Which WordPress Forum is the best

Hey Guys
Wanted to take your expert opinion on WordPress forum. I have a community blog of bloggers (ShoutMeLoud.com), which has a good user base. Now I need to integrate a forum on my blog, and wondering if it's a good idea to go with any option which works with WordPress, or use a stand alone forum software like phpbb and install forum on something like forum.shoutmeloud.com

For WordPress based forums, I have been doing some research, and found 2-3 good options, and wanted to hear your take on them.

Mingle Forum: Simple and easy to use plugin. Offer limited options, but good for a small forum.

bbPress: Official from WordPress dev community, but not a great forum in terms of features according to users. Wondering if any one of you are using it? and would you recommend it?

SimplePress: Heard more bad reviews after that start charging, and support does't seems to be so great according to users who are using it..

These are three options which I have lowered down to, and would love to hear your view on them.

I've messed with the three wordpress forums you've mentioned. I personally did not like any of them and went with a stand alone forum...like you mentioned forum.mysite.com

I personally went with vBulletin, but have used phpBB and it's a good system too.

Thanks for your suggestion, and I'm quite new to Forum creation. So would love to take your input on PHpBB vs Vbulletin?

Which one will be better and pros and cons if any? (Thanks in advance)

Ive always used bbPress and it seemed really nice to me.

It fits very well and it has a really nice admin-panel for it.

You can test it out, and it wont disappoint you.

Tried SimplePress out aswell, but didnt liked it really much.

Mingle Forum gets my vote. It's very easy to install and use.

Ive seen people adapting Vanilla Forums on Wordpress. There is also a Plugin for that.
Also you can integrate with VBulletin which is the best.
I am currently BBPress but its pretty basic. Needs too much development.

vBulletin is probably the most established, though they were bought out and their original coders left, so their future is a big question mark. I have yet to hear anything say anything good about version 5, and upgrading to 4 has caused me a share of headaches. I've used vBulletin for several years (since UBB became outdated), but I'm strongly considering XenForo, which is made by the people who left vBulletin. The best example in this niche would be Digital Point, which converted to XenForo earlier this year.

I use several different forums. I have used Mingle forums for a few of my membership sites and have a few thousand members and it has been absolutely hassle-free.

For bigger websites though (communities) that you plan to scale up big time, I would look beyond Wordpress towards something similar to vbulletin.
