What Did Microsoft Do To Vista?

Ah the joy of coming in in the morning and realizing that Microsoft has updated your operating system...

Could they bother to leave you an easy-to-find message telling you what they changed?

I think not!

Now, perhaps some of the geekier things -- well, okay -- don't need to know that.

But they changed the way running applications appear on my taskbar.

In fact, I only see 2 at a time.

Except there's a segment which has an up-arrow and down-arrow, so I can "scroll" through the running applications.

Well, fine, already.

Except! I have a huge blank space in my taskbar where I would like to see more of my running applications, where I can easily click on them!

grrrrrrrrrr.

Anyone know what this wonderful new feature is called?

I'm sure I'll love it once I get used to it...but, right now, it sorta feels like a pop-quiz in school.

Oh...and taking up additional space on my taskbar?

A "gadgets" button that is as wide as the 2 visible applications and the application scroll control....

I had turned gadgets OFF.

I actually used to run my taskbar along the right-side of my screen before they came up with the gadgets. Any possibility I can do that again?

Okay, so much for my griping...I'm looking for help? solutions?

      But, if you must know, people I respect recommend that.

        IF you didn't have auto-updates on you would know what they did.

        You would know the update and would be able to lookup what it does, what it may or may not effect, how to fix what errors may happen, etc.

        So yes, it DOES make a LOT of difference. Just not to why.

        Perphaps you should ask those you respect on how to find your update history so you can Google the update and fix it.

        I personally agree with that 100 percent, for anybody that hates Vista..well just make it look like XP again or 98..but not 3.1

    To answer your question though, I found this "solution"...
    Doesnt show multiple windows pages on taskbar

      LOL. Touche!

      Actually, I was one of the biggest complainers when I first had to deal with VISTA.

      They've actually improved it quite a bit over time.

      Leo LaPorte is saying Windows 7 is the BEST Windows MicroSoft has ever put out ...and I think it's still in beta.

      I guess having Apple snapping at their heels has managed to get Microsoft a little more lean & mean....

      PS -- and thanks for the link... unfortunately, when I follow the instructions, I don't get the result described in the article.
      (no little dots...it seems as though the only thing that happens is the
      spacing on the taskbar changes slightly.)

    I happily run Vsta on several of my computers (although the one running Windows 7 looks realy cool and acts very nice) and have never had an issue with it.I'm assuming it is because I set Vista up so that it runs the way I want. This was the beauty of the design, Microsoft gave the users what they asked for, an OS that did everything for them but could be configured to do our bidding our way if we so choose. Unfortunately, too many users just let Vista make all the choices then complained when they weren't the choices the user wanted. Vista is Very easy to configure so that it either asks your permission to do something (or everything if you prefer) or so that it never asks and every variable in between. I like Windows7 but for now, I'll stick with Vista (mine tells me when there are updates, tells me what they are and asks if I'd like to download and install any or all of them, then does as I want.)
