Authority site - too much monetization?

Hey guys,

I'm new to IM, but have made a decision to create an authority site within a particular niche that I am very passionate about. My question was about monetization strategies for your site. Ideally, I want to utilize the traffic on my site to build a list for a longer term monetization strategy. However, I was also looking at things such as having affiliate products and maybe ads on my pages - even having a "store" sub-section on my site all relevant to my niche.

So, question is - does having multiple means of making money on your site look too spammy? Also, would it make it harder to rank in search engines on Google if the site starts looking too commercial in nature? Lastly, how many monetization strategies do you employ on your sites?

Thanks

As long as the site is designed well, and the ads aren't too in your face, it should be fine having multiple means of monetization on your site.

I would work on uploading lots of valuable content and getting a steady stream of traffic before you load your site up with ads. I'm sure your rankings would be negatively affected if you set up a brand new site with little content and lots of ads.

I currently have an authority site in the solar energy niche, and I am monetizing with adsense, amazon and clickbank.
