Editors: Ebooks and Quality Fade

Have to say that I have downloaded a few Ebooks online and found numerous errors in spelling and grammar. Overall, there seems to be a quality control problem in terms of Ebooks being haphazardly sold without an edit.

At this time, my blog does not have an editor either and I self edit. Self editing can be a tricky practice and it is sometimes hard to catch your own mistakes. Surely, there are a few typos on my site that I am not aware of.

Have an idea that maybe in this forum, people could work together to edit each others work. It would save paying money for editors, increase quality writing, and build partnerships in the long run. Anybody interested?

Does anybody have any feedback on where to get editors?

There's a difference between proofreading and editing. Catching typos and errors of grammar is one thing, but good editors will also look for inconsistencies is style, and check that the text flows in a logical and orderly fashion. They'll ensure that the writing is pitched at the correct level for the audience by, for example, checking whether any technical or industry-specific terms need more explanation or could be simplified.

With a non-native English author, the editor will check for appropriate idiomatic use, and may need to restucture sentences or paragraphs to make the writing read more naturally to native English speakers.

An editor will also check for obvious factual errors - such as the one in the article on your web page that places polar bears in the Antarctic.

For all these reasons, an editor and writer need to work closely to establish an understanding of what the piece is intended to convey, and the readership at which it is aimed.

It's not really a task that's best performed by committee.

I agree with Frank. I am an editor and proofreader as well as a writer and I know I could help but YOU have to be specific about what you actually want done.

Good points. Polar bears are not in Antarctica either. Seems like they should be, though .

Really, looking to cover grammatical errors and typos and glaring mistakes like Polar Bears. Would like my writing to be the best it could and as professional as possible. So if you venture over to my blog, let me know if you see any mistakes. Would be forever in debt to you.

Your writing is not bad but there are a few minor errors there that should be fixed.
