Well, it really saddens me to see how newbies struggle and are soooo desperate to make quick and easy money.

Let’s be frank here guys, making money is not easy. Trying to build a business can be very difficult. It can absolutely demolish your confidence. It’s not what you see in movies or TV series. Entrepreneurship is not a fancy word. I am not discouraging. I am just saying the truth. Maybe you haven’t heard this from anyone before.

But It’s a challenge. People like challenge. They like to prove themselves. It’s a roller coaster ride. One day you feel like you can become a millionaire and on the same day you feel like your business can come down like a pack of cards .

I know what most of you would be thinking right now. I was in the same position 5-6 months back. I did a mistake back then. I quit my job too early when my business wasn’t making any money for me.

I know you want to be free. I know you have a debt. I know you can lose your house. You can lose your car, your wives .

There is only one solution to it ACT.

Yes, ACT and GET A JOB. This should be your priority right now if you really need money and you are not able to earn on internet. Send your CV’s to bloody 200 companies if you have to. Go personally and deposit your CV’s to HR managers if you have to. But Get a job and with that money build your business.

But before entering into this world I would like to say that Invest in yourself. Read books as much as you can. Read about marketing. Consult people. Learn how internet actually works. Don’t go for get rich quick schemes. Develop skills. Get a mentor. Well, that’s very important. I can say this from my personal experience. Saves a lot of time, energy and most importantly Money. I always kept these points in my mind and results are coming now.

But most importantly be fair. It’s not about money. It’s also about relationships. Money can come and go. But once you build a relationship with anyone that will stay with you forever.

If anyone wants to add anything. Please do it.

Acton is a waste without knowledge.

I personally dedicate at least two hours of learning a day. How? I get up two hours earlier than I used to

It's important to continue to learn, knowledge is crucial in order to succeed in my opinion.

Although @tashrif is very much right, you still need to take consistent action.

I chose entrepreneurship over further education despite being laughed at by my friends and family..

I recently hit the "RESTART" button on my life, read my personal blog to find out how I did it :)

New people get too overwhelmed with the hype they received. That's what happened to most of us when we first started.

You don't need hoards of knowledge to make money online. Trust me about that. You need to find a simple working plan and act on it. There may be some issues you face when you try a method. Successful people are those who overcome it and keep doing it until they hit their goal.

That's the problem with the Warrior Forum; too many conflicting suggestions. Since I was a newbie not too long ago (and I still am), I'd say if you have a day job, don't quit it. Do some moonlighting first...just as you'd do if you were building an offline business.

Study the different online business models and decide what you want to do. Then DO it. As you go along, you'll discover things you need to know ... go learn those things, but just keep taking action.

My formula is simple and I learned it from Dennis Becker and Carrie Ragen Green:

    Fail fast and fail forward.

You WILL make mistakes (even if you spend the rest of your life reading). But for each mistake, you get to learn what doesn't work and then you can either tweak or move on.

That would be my advice from one newbie to another.

    Prateek,

    I'll second what you say!
I don't share my story often, but I was laid off from my job almost 2 years ago.
I thought, "This is perfect...It will give me the time to focus on breaking into IM! No excuses."

Well, I DID work at it...8 hour days many days, between looking for "day work" to satisfy the requirements to meet unemployment.

Now, part of my failure was my own damn fault. I use the name "The ADHDpreneur" for a reason, you know? - Couldn't stay focused. One shiny object after another. Lots of advice I'd follow, until I'd read conflicting advice that would confuse me

Oh hell, since I'm revealing all in this post, I'll further admit that shortly before this period of unemployment, I'd had $5,000 pass between my hands and used it to start a venture that completely bombed.

Ironically, I came upon a mentor, right around the time a year of unemployment had nearly passed, and I found another job in my field, and had no choice but to get back to work.

Once I found a mentor to follow, things totally changed for me. I can't say I'm a success story yet, because I'm still chipping away at it...ADHD, remember? But for crying out loud, I sure bemoan not having used a mentor to begin with. Insult to injury? I could have used that $5,000 for private coaching with him and been almost assured success, between the combination of having tools and time.

But for now...I am back at a day job, trying to male this work with every free moment I've got. Older, and poorer to be sure, (or rather, 'broke'...never poor) but much wiser.

Discouraging? Yes. Hopeless? Nope. I think the experience has taught me in several ways, and although time and money are hindrances now, I sure do value the time and money I have now, and tend to use them more wisely.

Don't quit your day job until you are making it and can afford to - as painful as it is.

And while you are trying to make it, get a mentor, get a mentor, get a mentor. The whole picture will come together for you so much quicker and more clearly, and the steps you take will be much more actionable.

    Just my 2 cents.

Before quitting a job ensure that you've got enough information about what you want to start up on.
Get a coach/mentor.Someone to take you through all the processes and strategies of making cool money online or rather in IM.
Skills and Experience are key to your success.

        Prateek,

Sounds like you learned some hard lessons, something many of us have done along the way. I definitely agree, get a job or keep your job until your online business consistently matches what your job brings in (assuming your job is paying all of your bills).

The goal that I am working toward right now is to match my monthly income from my job within 90 days. I can't walk away from my job without replacing at least what I make there. The next goal is to bank enough money to cover 6 months of expenses. By the time that second goal is reached I should know if my business income is consistent enough, and I have a parachute for making that jump of quitting my job.

Some folks may have been laid off or are out of a job for some reason, and I echo Prateek here, get a job. Don't hope and pray your online business takes off and you won't need to get a job. Go get a job, and once your bills are being paid, then focus on your business and how you can get it to a place where it consistently matches your job income before you consider leaving.

I totally agree on getting a mentor as well, but with all the sharks out there it's hard to know who to trust.

One thing's for certain, there is a ton of free info out there, tons of info on this forum, you can feel out whether someone is credible or just trying to take your money. You must listen to your instincts though. If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.

Don't let your desperation to make tons of money RIGHT NOW, or to find that 'secret' money making method cause you to keep chasing after and buying product after product.

I know it may seem hard to take action when you don't want to waste your time doing the wrong thing, or working on an outdated method. Truth is, research and find what makes sense to you. Put on some blinders, and act on it. It won't work out perfectly, so when you hit a bump in the road, overcome it. Don't think, 'oh this failed' and go looking for another method.

        My two cents

        Stacy

The most important thing I think to do is to stop thinking about the whole thing as "freedom" from the 9-5 until you're actually free... (Having something that works online)

Start thinking of it like a real job... with real hours ... and YOU are the boss..

    1) Set a schedule for yourself and STICK to it..
Something like: 2 hours of work split into 1 hour of work on the most important thing and 1 hour of the next biggest thing.... then a 20 minute break. Afterwards another 2 hours split into 1 hour of link building, research, advertising, socializing (business related) and then 1 hour of blog posting, forum posting etc.. rinse and repeat for a good 8 hours a day.

    2) Hold yourself accountable.. Keep a list of all the activities you complete, (I used to go sit in another room on my "break" and write out a list of all the things I was doing, how far along I was etc..
(You have NO idea how helpful it is to get away from the computer) ..
Sometimes I even try to have a 20 minute nap, and all these ideas flood to my head that I otherwise wouldn't have thought of sitting in front of the computer screen. When I took my 20 minute breaks in another room, I'd sit in silence, maybe with a coffee and a smoke in front of a pad of paper and a pen and while I was writing down what I just completed in the past 2 hours I would get all sorts of ideas and plans for my next 2 hours of work.

I used to get so much work done...

    3) Schedule in some learning time... 1 to 2 hours minimum.. everyday!
Find a bunch of tutorials (Lynda.com) or even free ones on Youtube and learn something EVERYDAY, and learn something new, don't que up 20 tutorials on one subject.. mix it up, even if you think it isn't related to your business or niche... learn.. it all applies somehow and it keeps you fresh and sharp.

    4) Tips:
Use a Timer / Alarm Clock and track your time.
Use a Notepad and Write Stuff Down, Make Lists, plans etc..
Get a WhiteBoard and use it to brainstorm and to write positive motivational quotes on.
Designate a "Work Area" and a "Break Area" and even a nap area .. try to have a 30 minute nap everyday (Even if you don't actually sleep) it's VERY helpful.... Do not underestimate it's power.

You will get A LOT of work done using a more structured method.

If you don't take it seriously, you won't get serious results.

Look at your current work ethic and ask yourself if you would hire you to build a business?
Would you hire you to make you money?
Does it seem like you take yourself seriously? or are you just dabbling? lurking ... being a "silent member in the background?" ... ..

If they made a documentary about your life and where you're at today ... would you be embarrassed? and how would you change that result? what would you do differently?
    What steps would you take?

That's really a wonderful plan Stacy. I wish everyone reads that and That's how it should be done.
It's perfectly fine if you have a day job of 9-5 and then from 8-12 you can work on your business.
Use that money to expand your business.

This is one of the things I have heard countless times, yet ignored when I was just starting out.

My mentality was, I can do this without a mentor, and using the lowest investment possible. Why get mentor when WSO can help me?

Wrong, wrong, wrong. WSO is full of hype. It promise everything but beyond.
But whether it's actionable, profitable and sustainable is another question.

Don't get me wrong it's a great LEARNING experience! It's fun and challenging. Causes a great deal of personal growth if you can get through the failures. And in the end it is worth it to understand how this whole enchilada works.

      If you want faster results.
      DON'T DO IT ALONE...

People in the forum will give you lots of great advice and tools.

I feel building a offline business is much easier than online business. You can take online business as a stepping stone for another business.

People go wrong thinking that online business is some magic wand that will give them money from day 1.
