My host has free joomla installs and some people swear by them. I've often look at it and it looks pretty indepth. Is it useful for niche marketing? So far i've been wearing out WP installs and they seem to be doing ok.

Would joomla be useful to deploy...or stick wwith wp, if its not broke dont fix it?

Joomla is different than WP and may take some time to wrap your head around.

If you are making money now with your WP and just looking to explore something different it can be fun but is a time investment.

It is not necessary, but I personally like to dip into it. I like playing with the different template options and it has a different look and feel as far as sites go.

You can rank for both just as effectively. If you want to learn then do it. If you are out for money strictly as an affiliate of smaller niches then you may find it a waste of time.

Depends what you're going to use it for. If you're starting a membership site or eCommerce site there are lots free plug-ins that can help you get up and running in no time. There are lots of templates too.

If you want a blog site, or just a regular sales page site, Joomla probably isn't worth all the hassle of learning it.

Both will do well in SEO. Both will rank.

Wordpress is faster and easier to setup.
    Joomla is more scaleable.

I use Joomla for serious sites that have tons of content and need to scale in the future.

I use Wordpress for the smaller niche or local small business sites with limited or tightly-defined content. After all, it's only a blog.

You can learn Joomla at Joomla Video Tutorials.
    Wordpress at WordPress.tv.

I'm heavily into Joomla. As a blogging platform I don't think it's as good as wordpress, but it's not meant to be a blogging platform. It's a community platform.

The real strength is the ability to program custom modules and components. Our entire application set is a series of Joomla components. You can do some amazing things with it.

  • I wouldn't build a small niche site with Joomla. I use Wordpress for that. Joomla I use for larger projects.

The main advantage for my marketing with Joomla is I can create multiple ad campaigns and assign them to pretty much any location within the template. Then toggle them on and off as I see fit.

Joomla is amazingly powerful for manipulating data. Wordpress on the other hand makes data manipulation more difficult.

I never auto install anything because I want to make sure it's set up correctly. And autoinstalls are not always the most current version... depending on your host. And if you are going to start new you might as well use the most current version.

I use Joomla for larger projects that I update personally and aim to rank high in the search engines for. It is also an excellent platform if you plan to eventually hire someone to add to content for you.

I use WP for automated RSS supplemented blogs that I hardly ever update personally. They just grow with more and more feeds (sometimes junk) but they do get crawled.

I have installed Joomla for the last four sites I have worked on. Clients love the ease of use of the administrative backend once the site is built - however, the learning curve for customizing a Joomla site is steep.

I have used the JSN Epic2 Joomla template for all of my recent sites - found here: Joomla Templates and Joomla 1.5 Templates - Home.

I use the auto-install through Fantastico and then upgrade using the latest patch - for either a WordPress or Joomla site.

One other thing to note - a major Joomla upgrade is on the way. It is due out in the fall of 2009 (which probably means late fall or early winter).

There are lots of great extensions for Joomla that can make it very easy for affiliate advertising such as this extension: Page Peel Banner - Joomla! Extensions Directory

Can't beat the ease of use of a WordPress install though, with all of the free templates out there.
