Membership Sites Creation?

I want to start a membership site. I am asking the Warriors who have experience in this field their opinions on the following questions:
  • What is the best way to create a membership site?
  • Do you recommend me doing the work, or me hiring someone else to?
  • What are the pros and cons of both?
  • What software is best and why?
  • Besides website creation, what else do I need to know (security, payment collections, etc.)?

I can put together websites, but am no expert when it comes to the really technical stuff. I probably know enough to be dangerous. I am doing the research to put together a plan, and I need to understand the best solutions possible.

    Hi Scott,
    It all depends upon what type of membership you are wanting, there are many different kinds. It is good that you are doing a plan first as this is the first thing I always tell my clients.

    I personally find it 100% better to use my own coded membership script because there are many many options that the others just do not provide and one major thing is security. I am not talking about securing your downloads but the site itself all together.

    There are many site functions I take into consideration

    * Full site security
    * Secure Downloads Area
    * Built In Support Ticket System
    * Members Backend News
    * Ability For Members To Close Their Accounts
    * Plus Many Other Functions

    Again though functions depends upon what kind of membership site you are building.
