Too much competition?

Recently I have been thinking of making a website where I can sell high quality graphics. Mainly logos, maybe banners and things along those lines. But I found a website that it seems nearly impossible to compete with.

99designs

If you look at their website, they have over 100,000 people that have submitted designs. Their idea/niche just seems like it would be impossible to compete with.

But one thing is, they are expensive.

If I were to charge maybe even $50 for graphics similar to theirs, do you think it would be possible for me to get sales?

Also, how is their service, have any of you tried it?

Please just give me your opinion even if you know nothing about this.

Also, I am sorry if this is in the wrong section, I wasn't sure what section to put it in.

Just do it if you think you can offer something better. If your service is cheaper and is as good as your competitor, I don't see why you can't succeed. Furthermore, you don't always have to be no.1.

    Good luck

Exactly. Also, some people will make you confuse before starting it.

There's always competition, Wal-Mart beats it's competitors because they cut their profits and offer lower prices. When you're working in the IM niche you'll attract more customers with lower prices especially if you produce a good quality work.
You may want to consider doing a little SEO work for free advertising or organic traffic. There are threads on here where people are looking for free and low priced graphics for their websites.

I'm yet to see a niche without an active player.

Even if you are going to offer your graphics on WF, there are already enough competitors to put you off.

What matters is caving out a unique pattern for yourself and getting as much exposures as necessary.

There are also the middle class that needs decent designs.

Just don't be afraid of your competitors. Try to offer something better than what the competitors are offering. If your offer is a bit unique than the others that may benefit your potential clients, just go for it!

Great designs, low costs, flexibility and fast turnaround time will be the perfect combination.

I on the other hand am not so much as a price shopper as I am a time saver. I buy based on my ability to save time. I'll pay for any service if it saves me time. I want as much free time as I can get.

You haven't built your website yet, you don't have to worry about your competition.

its the same scenario as eb@y, lots of customer complaints, quite expensive to sell and monopoly style business but i guess they are doing something right , to keep people coming...many poeple have tried to build eb@y sites but all have failed...for 99 designs pretty much the same huge advertising budget, and lots of seo, you see them everywhere...so its not only having a cheaper price..you need to advertise heavily which will probably bring your prices up, unless you have a million friends that all are willing to post in your site...

      Under promise and over deliver.

I'd like to say where I heard that exactly, but it comes up a lot of places.

By over delivering you will often have more return customers than you can handle when providing a service. Giving your customer added quality that they didn't expect is a great way to build a reputation.

There are logo designers right here on the WF that are selling their creative work for anywhere from $9 to $89 and up for a logo. (see the Classified Ads section)

Yes, there is room for you if you're good and offer great customer service.

I think the logos at 99Designs start at $299 so there is definitely a space for less costly logos.

Go for it. If you are a great designer the sales will follow.

The competition is one of the biggest problems of every business. If you will be intimidated by the competition, you won't get anywhere.

Find ways to offer something different to your audience, find different places to sell your services, and offer a better experience to your customers.

If only the best ones were making money, we wouldn’t have to face fierce competition in all fields.

Some people don't like these big sites, they prefer to have a more responsible response. You will have your audience and your clients.

    Hi DMO,

Just continue with your plan. Competition is present in every industry. Just take it as a challenge and motivation for you to create something better for your customers; something that they have not yet tried and new. Most people wants something that's new right? And I think that would be your advantage. People are always curious.
