Questions about a review site

Hi all,

I am trying to figure which direction to go.

I have a dotcom domain with the word "review" in it. The domain is not targeted to a specific niche.I have been looking via Google at different sites that are "review sites".

I have seen the 1 page sites with like 4 or 5 product reviews and a star rating for each product.

Then I have seen actual blogs that review various affiliate products in each post or even static pages that review the product.

My question is, which style of site seems to make money for you?

TIA,
Deanna

I prefer simplicity and to make it easy for the buyer. I would stick to one product on a landing page and review just that product. Write an honest review and be sure to mention the negatives, otherwise it doesn't come across as real. I have done better with a site like this with a few posts on the page along with the product review.

Good luck whatever way you choose to go.

I like oregongal's reply. It reflects some of my own thoughts as well. Most "review" sites that I see fall short of their intention.

I'm considering a review site and will have a separate review on each page to better optimize for SEO. Also, if you do PPC via Google, they will consider Quality Score for their Adwords program. You won't be able to get away with a short page harvesting names and eMails. You will be much better off having a relevant page with good content using SEO as well.

I don't study enough about blogs to give personal advice, but I can say many are using WordPress for their blogs and are generating decent traffic.... enough to write about it anyway. LOL!

I've actually found success with doing a 1/3 approach and using wordpress. Above the fold would be the review, and under the finished IN DEPTH review, would be a line featuring 3 other reviews of similar products/services. So it would be like this:

    1 first review
    -----------------
Picture of 2nd, picture of 3rd, picture of 4th product

Then make each picture a hyper link going to that product. Also, under each picture would be the title of the product.

Always however, is that each review must be indepth. At least in my experiences.

I have had success with both single page 'pre-sell' review sites and also with 3 product review type sites. You need to test which one works best in your niche and also which products convert best to sales. If I was in your position I would make a decision and move forward, take consistent action, test your results (do constant split testing) and see what works best for your site, in your niche, with the type of traffic you are driving to your site (all these factors will have an impact on your results, in addition to the copywriting you have on your site).

Both type of review sites make money, but...
Just make sure your readers are making the "click" to the sales page.
You have no idea how many (excellent) review sites fail here.
Use plenty of cloaked affiliate links in your review to the sales page, but don't overdo it.
Make the links as enticing as they can be.
    Good luck!
