There are four main options, regarding the mechanics of "opting people in", really ...

(i) A self-hosted squeeze-page (very popular, builds bigger lists, but still not always the best option: Website or squeeze page )

(ii) An opt-in on the home page/any page/every page of a content-rich blog/site (less popular, builds smaller lists, typically more work, can be best - "the biggest list" and "the list that produces most income" are usually two different things, and there are reasons for that) - this is what I use, myself

(iii) A squeeze-page hosted for you by your autoresponder company - 'GetResponse' has some good ones (possible, maybe not optimal, never my choice)

(iv) A third-party service which gives you a free squeeze-page set-up hosted on a subdomain of their site, linkable to your autoresponder company (this usually comes with strings and catches, some obvious and others not at all, looks far less professional, never my choice)

In my opinion, the sensible choice is between options (i) and (ii) above (I think (i) is generally easier and (ii) is often better).

There's actually a fifth option, too ...

(v) Some autoresponder companies facilitate list-building without having a web page opt-in per se at all: intending subscribers can simply send an email to a specific opt-in address which automatically adds them on the list and usually sends a confirmation-request by reply (I don't think I know anyone who routinely uses this option).

I was leaning to start a content rich blog/site instead of a squeeze page in the niches im in , i was in doubt of which one would produce a better (not necessary bigger) opt-ins.

You could lead people to your sales letter/description page, and....

1) Embed an opt-in form within the sales letter, or...

2) Insert a hover ad code from aweber to capture leads that way

(Sorry Alexa if you already covered this. Sometimes your literature is a little too advanced

I know many people will say this won't work, but I have used it successfully.

Offer an outstanding short report that solves a common problem in the niche very quickly and give it away as a bonus for anyone that will sign up for your newsletter.

There is no "squeeze" about it. You're not forcing anything. If someone wants the report and doesn't want to join your newsletter audience, give them the report anyway.

Of course, the idea is to make the report so good that someone in the niche would be stupid not to want to get further great niche information from you once they understand the quality you offer.

In essence, they are joining because they want what you have to offer - not because the only way to get it is to bite on the "squeeze page" bribe.

However before you even start you should think about the end result.

For example - if you are planning to use solo ads, you must use a squeeze page with a blackens funnel.

If you want to nest a form on your blog, you could invest a little more in the so called "relationship" part E. G thank you page, unadvertised bonuses and pre sell content..

The easiest way to think about it is "put your damn form in front of the right market"

Step 1:Setup squeeze pages AND add optin forms to your core sites, blogs, and facebook.
Step 2: Then drive traffic to the pages with your optin forms.

That's my simple 2 step recipe.

Basically, what a list is imho:

"A list of contact emails that you have permission to mail to. It's like getting a lot of phone numbers from your friends, and getting that implicit permission to interact with them."

What happens here is that not everyone is going to meet you at the same place and the same time. It's like when you meet people at parties, at work or somewhere random: These people all have had different subtle impressions and visions of you.

In the case of marketing, you have what is called Transactional Intent. It normally goes like this:

Informational Intent --> Navigational Intent --> Transactional Intent

Your squeeze page is going to meet these prospects at various stages.

So for example, if you place an Adwords ad about a massage service, and users click on it to get onto your landing page... What you essentially have is someone with an intent in between navigational and transactional.

If someone searches for "cheap Macintosh computers", they're essentially going with a buyer's mindset - Transactional.

If people are searching for problems or situations, it's more than likely informational.

What you should do is to tailor these traffic sources accordingly to where they should be. So as mentioned by some sharp Warriors above, you have different kinds of landing pages.

Blogs, reply-opt-ins, registrations, Landing pages, homepages, social media squeezes, etc. All of these are going to be headed for different directions, and it's also important to tailor your email sequences for these different segments.

Hi Norim,

You may also use videos instead e.g Youtube. Just remember to add your website url as a means of contact either within the video or as a just below it on your youtube page. Always incorporate an auto responder with this.
