Media Buying for Affiliate Marketing

I'm an offline guy that's dabbling in clickbank marketing so I'm looking for some rockstar affliliate marketers to point me in the right direction.

I have a clickbank product that I'd like to promote - It's not a MMO product and I'd like to promote it using Media Buys. My question is, after I choose what websites to promote my banner on - Is it better to send traffic directly to the offer/sales page or does it make more sense to send them to a niche blog w/ affiliate banners.

One thing I don't want to do (since it's such a specialized niche) is build a list and email market to them. There's only 1 good CB product to promote on this subject, so it's not like the MMO niche where I could email my list each week. And that's why I thought it would be better to send traffic directly to the offer page instead of a blog.

I guess what i'm wondering is for those who have used Media Buying as a list building method - what would you recommend?

Well, Banners are always a tough way to get sales in my opinion. You can't really target them well. I would pick a bad looking banner if it is on a clean site and a really good looking banner if it is on a not so good looking site. Just try to make the ad stand out. I would also redirect them to a Squeeze Page to get their name and email. They are important even if you are not planning on using them often.
Also, try setting up Retargeting. That should increase your conversion rate as well.\

It is better to figure out what your target audience looks like, by looking at the Quantcast demographics on your site and any competitor websites.

Then, find websites that serve the same demographics that represent your target audience.

Once you have found sites that serve the same demographic set, knowing where to buy advertising should be brain-dead simple.

Research your market on alexa and quantcast first.
Then target the websites on which you want to upload ads.
Test multiple headlines and banners. See what works for you and for that product.
Yes, you may have to make a squeeze page.

    Neither.

(I mean that it doesn't much matter which of those two is "better", because they're both so bad, anyway.)

What makes sense is to send them to a niche blog from which you can build a list to retain some of the traffic.

Very, very few people buy a ClickBank product at their first visit to its sales page, and without opting in the traffic and sending them email, you don't have a way of prompting them to return to it, so you don't really have any income. It makes little sense to pay for advertising but make no attempt to retain any of the traffic generated by it. This is fundamental to ClickBank affiliate sales.
