How do I update my Nameservers

This is my first time making a website, and I just bought a domain and hosting. When I try to access Cpanel, it does not load the page. In the email my hosting company sent, it said I have to update my nameservers. Im hoping this is the problem, and am wondering how I do this. Thanks

Your webhost welcome email should have included nameserver addresses which look something like:
    ns1.xxxxx.com
    ns2.xxxxx.com

You add these in your domain name control panel so the domain can point to your site.

DOMAIN NAME control panel! If you bought the domain NAME from your webhost *****WITH***** the domain, they should have automatically set it up for you, but if you searched for it too early, you may have to wait for it to propagate. If you did NOT buy them at the same time, you need to go to your last level registrar(godaddy, enom, idomain, etc...) and change it THERE! AGAIN, you WILL have to wait for it to resolve.

It is, quite frankly, senseless to set these things up in cpanel, so there is, of course, no way to do so.

I kind of understand what your saying, but Im new to this and am having a bit of trouble. Im just going to go throught exactly what I did.

          First, I bought my domain,

Then I bought hosting through Veerotech Systems, WSO (http://www.warriorforum.com/web-host...solutions.html)

It says it is taking time to propagate, but it says I can still use Cpanel. It also says to change my name servers (I dont know what this means.)

When I copy and past my cpanel url into my browser, nothing comes up. I also am not sure how to change name servers without Cpanel.

How long until I can access my website? Thanks a lot for all of the help.

You have to use the IP address and name combo they gave you to access cpanel. But DON'T try to access or enter your domain name!

FIRST, you have to go where you bought the domain NAME, and find the section where you can change the name server pointers. These must point to a NAME SERVER! They CAN point to your site, IF it has a name server.

You THEN go to cpanel, with the IP and name combo, and enter the name for your new site. NOTE, this is necessary ONLY if you didn't have it setup with that domain name when you ordered it.

On windows, you CAN use "nslookup yoursite.com" to find the nameservers that have been setup.

BTW just so you know, the way this all works is that you enter a domain in your browser.

    1. It goes to the closest domain name server on your net.
    2. If it expired, or isn't set, it goes to the next one. Otherwise, it uses the cached IP.
    3. Eventually, if it gets to the MAIN server(set by your name registrar). When it gets THAT info, it goes to the first available name server you have set, and loads the caches with the appropriate IP.
    4. It then returns whatever IP is in the cache, and your browser goes there.

    Hi there,

As our website & support desk is currently undergoing scheduled maintenance (emails was sent already in the past few days) could you PM me your domain name so I can check you DNS settings?

I replied to your thread earlier but never got a response. I also believe I've located your ticket which I also replied to with a video & instructions. If it's the domain name I think it is, the DNS is correctly set.

    Thanks,
    Brent

You can simply ask your service provider to do it for you.

Who did you buy the domain from? You just need to contact them and give them the nameservers you need to change.
